What are they like ?
Reliable ? Cheap / Expensive to run ?

Ive heard that they arent worth buying coz when they break (which apparently they will pretty quick) the parts are not easy to get etc etc

Im looking at getting a Mirage.

Thoughts ?

If you are looking at getting a hatch back, get a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla, pretty much the most reliable to own

i can personally vouch for a Honda Civic, i've had one for about 5 years and have not had one thing go wrong with it

I've seen tonnes of evo's break... gearboxes mostly. Non turbos seem to be sweet.

errrr .. I would say the Evo gear boxes are some of the strongest around ..

strongest around? they have improved them but ive seen more evo's shit there gear boxes than any other car. Yes from launching hard and awd donuts but on standard cars it shouldn't be an issue, ive seen a pretty much BRAND NEW evo 5 swing 3 donuts and bang crunch etc 'woops its done the box' now thats build quality.

I thrashed my awd GTX solidly for 2 years before i sold it, 6000RPM drop the clutch and it just bit and took off, never had an issue, the GTX's are known for having shitty gear boxes too.. I just made sure it got serviced ragularily

Nothing beats a W78 Supra or Skyline GTR box for strenght (minus anything aftermarket)

you must of had a bit of bad luck with them ... I have a bunch of friends with them .. and not one of them have ever had an issue, and the do 1/4 miles on them too

lol i havn't had bad luck with them, never owned one most likely never will, I've just seen lots go bang at the drag strip, on videos and tv, and from the mouths of a few guys that have owned them

im in a similar mindframe to blade here, in my experience with my mates and stuff, evo boxes are strong enuf for the shit ppl give em, u do the same shit to a subby and itll last longer. ive seen lots go bang before they should, my mates evo 4 went bang on a launch and the GTS4 launched way harder and was fine

Mitsi's are mint! The only prob i know of with the performance mitsi's are the conrods in the gsr's if running high poundage and the boxes in these can go but after a life of thrashing wat wouldn't expect. the evo hav lush boxes They haul and will kill a skyline If you are looking at getting a mirage they last for ages! New or old. Even mivec. I'm sure the mitsi vs Nissan is just what these people are for.

Corolla is definitely a very good option if your main concern is reliability, etc, from a $5k car, IMO.

What a load of shit, Evo's are one of the best cars to modify (biggest bang for buck) and when you do mod them of even thrash them standard they don't shit them selves like Mazdas/Nissan's do oh and GTX gearboxes are made from balser wood.. go take your stories about your eastside kiddies car back to howick

Nissans are reknowned for strength, where are you getting your info from because you obvisouly dont know anything.

I know GTX gear boxes are shit. I was lucky that mine didn't go, especially considering how it got driven. Friends of mine had theirs go.

My skyline makes 450BHP on stock internals, come back with a 450BHP evo and we'll go over the difference.

Well ive had my evo 3 for 4 years now, and the best part of the start of owning that car was thrashing (2 years), never had a gear box go on me, but then im a nana driver as my friends tell me.

Guess it all comes down to what ya can get out of 5k, my advice is to get something cost effective, used to cost me $40 to fill up, now its more like $65 to $70, getting rid of mine soon, over it.

Mitsubishi MX 94?

non turbo is the way to go due to the shitty fuel prices, other than that a gt starlet is prob ur best bet for a little quick turbo
