all you need Wink Laughing

are mini-atx cheaper than atx? they are aye?... just 'cause I know you can get cool DVD-player-esk cases for atx

for a mini itx motherboard & 1ghz cpu with ur integrated sound, graphics and lan for about $230-300. alternatively you could buy a complete one with case and power supply etc for about $400-500

Mine is
mini itx via epia M http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=113037 $320
512 ddr ram $180 has to be low profile or it wont fit under the optical drive if you want one.
120 gig WD 8mb drive $160
round cabling $30

cupid case with 1 pci slot which has a wifi card in it - it was from procase but i cant see it there anymore. External psu's are best for small cases.

slightly larger http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=111634 will take normal size fdd and dvd/cd roms (the cupid uses slimline which are expensive)
also http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=108565 might be worth a look.

you cut back on the ram depending on the os you run and i use a dvd writer in a ice external drive for playing dvds if i need to (most use avis and mp3s)
[quote]
i would just buy the media box complete. look at computer wholesalers. check out good ol pp.co.nz if you want some ideas. they are under the barebone section on there Smile

i woulda gone for something a bit more high class (seeing as you have got the bling) and gone for a shuttle...or even something a tad cheaper with Soltek bringing their own shuttle series which look like this... http://www.soltek.com.tw/soltek/image/qbic_images/EQ3702.jpg

What you doing for a remote?
[quote]
of course I can get this alot cheaper than the price on there...

jesus christ... $499.00 Aussie Neutral
[quote]
The via epia MIIs are out soonish with cardbus and cf card reader on the back pane - with mine had that :/

theres some good remotes on ascent under accessories. ~$100

If your going to run freevo all you need is a movie network share, a 32meg boot cf card and a remote that does up down and spacebar.

$500 LOL

Surely there is a product that is an infrared signal accepter thingy that can be programmed to recieve from an existing remote?

$20 of parts from jaycar and it's a reality under linux/freevo, which is still the best standalone media playing environment I've seen.
