This businessesman, Yong Ming Yan who obtained NZ citizenship and then changed his name but did business under another name again and was found with passports under yet another name - There is something very sifty about this on many levels.

I don't know why it's taking so long to even argue this. It should be:
- Possession of multiple passports under different names = deal-breaker imo. Gone.

Then...
- What reason did Labour MP Shane Jones give when overruling Internal Affairs advice that Liu did not meet character requirements and granted him citizenship?
- How was MP Dover Samuels involved with this guy? (regarded him as a close friend)
- What dealings did MP Pansy Wong have with him? (She wrote a letter of recommendation on his citizenship application)

"have you ever worked, flown, lived under another name?" should be one of the first questions they ask with the penalty of automatic removal if discovered to be misleading/lying about it later.

Also...
- He changed his nme days after being granted citizenship. Why?
- He paid cash for an apartment in the Metropolis building and cash for another ($5 million) Bayswater property.
- Was driven out of Australia for financial oddities
- Has companies registered in tax haven, the British Virgin Islands, with no info offered about them by him.
- Travelled to Australia (while living in NZ) on different passports with different names and failed to declare this as required (under Aussie law and as stated on all in-bound passenger cards)

Not to mention he was arrested in 2009 at the airport trying to leave the country. He was facing 12 charges covering false declarations on his immigration papers, having false passports and using deception to gain citizenship.

Changing your name ain't illegal, paying cash for things ain't illegal, legally registering companies overseas ain't illegal. There (presumedly) are charges and action for wilfully misleading immigration - so this should all be dealt with under those.

Entering a country on multiple passports and not declaring it on the arrival card is illegal for obvious reasons, and it happened more than once according to media. Even that aside, the possession of multiple current passports under different names is a crime in itself. Apparently there were three (counting the new NZ one).

I'd also think misleading people during your immigration application process it is a pretty obvious warning sign someone is not legit imo and the paying of massive amounts of money for houses etc should raise a number of warning flags thereafter.

All that aside, I think Labour MP Shane Jones should state the reason(s) he overruled the immigration advice.

Whats the problem with whats happening G Dub?

Oh I got no problem with it - more that the issue is only about falsely declaring to immigration the things you're doing, more than the things themselves.
Rob - yeah, if the three passports are all current then that's criminal.
