Now on to the semi finals against Canterbury. And if Hawkes Bay can maintain Sunday's first half effort for eighty minutes, we could knock those slope-headed bastards off their perch!

Come back when you've won a title.

pfffft.Pretty hard for a team like HB to win a title when the Super Franchises stack theyre team with All Blacks come semi finals time. Pretty damn unfair as well.

HB are prob only challenged by Southland as this years over achieving union

The NPC is a bit of a farce yeah, they need to keep the All Blacks out of the squads altogether if you ask me.

Even then Auckland would probably dominate overall and Canterbury would be fighting with Wellington for 2nd spot over the years.

Southland imo are by far an over achieving side. Look at them, one AB, the rest are "no names". Well done I say.

Perch??? We haven't even made a final in the new format Razz

We will win though, but that is because of depth in the province, not All Blacks Smile
[quote]
Bullshit. If you dont need your AB's ....dont play them then Razz

I tend to agree with you Roman, but I tempered my post for two reasons, my bias....Ive always had a soft spot for Southland (Im from there in a roundabout way)

Plus HB had to topple Waikato in the semi

We haven't really. Only Greg Sommerville. McCaw only played cause Mose ended up injured, and he still sat on bench for most of the game. Other than that, the only other All Black is Andy Ellis, and he has played most of the season after Weepu took his spot in All Blacks, so doesn't really count.

And remember, we thrashed the Magpies without those 2 players earlier in year.

Ellis is pies.

Well done Hawkes Bay, you've done us proud for another uear and given all your fans a lot of pleasure. If there was any justice it would be the Magpies and not the hapless Chiefs lining up in next years Super 14.

An unearned sense of entitlement - the very embodiment of Waikato rugby right there.

so because hawkes bay have had 2 semi decent Air NZ cup performances the Chiefs should be dropped in Favour of them Confused

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Usually i enjoy your posts on sports fish_boy but sadly this thread seriously lacks in credibility Embarassed

Eh? Only Sommerville and McCaw??

Same team that has played all season, stop ya whining.

They had an awesome season, but don't blame their loss on Canterbury, look at yourselves!
[quote]
McCaw is like 3 players though.....especially at this level

I agree with fish_boy, the Chiefs have been abysmal for far far too long....teh Highlanders arent much better but at least they have attempted to blood locally and have actually made a final.

Its not going to happen but a Super spot would be a good reward for one of the few NZ provinces that actually appears to be thriving for NZ rugby in the current climate
[quote]
Why do people continue to think that the home base of a Super team makes it their team?

Canterbury is not the crusaders, Waikato is not the Chiefs???

They are franchises and don't even hav the place in the name.

maybe after a little more than 2 winning seasons
[quote]
Probably a fair enough point, although again I dont see it happening unless some sort of top 5 in the NPC goes through to Super system is developed....kinda like the Premier League ---> Euro Cup bizzo

Its not really feasible though is it, "hey lets enter Super rugby with Southland and Hawkes Bay instead of Otago and Auckland!" errrrrrrr. no Neutral

I still don't get your guys logic?

Hawkes Bay will surely have loads of players in the Hurricanes?

It's not the Wellington Hurricanes???

I was simply replying to fish_boys post as to that the chiefs franchise should be dropped in favour of hawkes bay as they have had 2 decent seasons...
[quote]
Still doesn't make any sense, it would still be a franchise, and 90% of the same team would run out onto the field, changing head office wouldn't make a difference.
[quote]
Its would make a SHITLOAD of difference, where they play most their games just for starters....and the smaller unions players within the frachise are often marginalised. North Harbour for example, Tuitavake had to fight for years for a Blues spot....same goes for Lukey Mac and both players are world class

That 90%/10% you speak of is actually quite significant
