Honouring a legend with a slice of funki house, wrapped in a thick layer of self-promotion.

Unbelievable.

Fantastic response; when defending yourself against the sentiment that you might be using the awareness of someone's death for your own personal gain you mention the weather.

For what it's worth, it's 31 degrees where I am and that doesn't disguise the fact you're attempting to piggy-back the the worldwide success of someone who hasn't even been given a funeral yet.

Still got that chip on your shoulder i see!

Anyway, not upset about MJ so I don't really care about ransacking his still twitching corpse for self promotion (please don't do this when someone I still musically respect dies) but why didn't you use the 'billie jean' bassline? Used too often already?
[quote]
that is one of the most insulting, self-indulgent posts i think i've ever seen on here - which is saying something.

to quickly skim over the passing of a musical legend and dive straight into your own personal profiles is retarded, and the perfect snapshot of why new zealand's clubbing and musical scene is so fucked up.

what an ego. get over yourself.

? could you explain?
[quote]
Downtown brown was/is a dj from someplace in the sth island who made a downbeaty type tune years back using the bassline from billie jean (I think, I am not a mj fan, his noncing about kinda wrecks it for me)
[quote]
Oh I see. I thought you were talking about a character from Fat Albert, or Sesame Street.

SUNSHINE SOUND SYSTEM featuring DOWNTOWN BROWN

The man not behind one of last year's cheekiest bootlegs - a hip hop cut up featuring Michael Jackson's Billy Jean bassline. Made 4 years ago as a DJ tool, this tune was favourably reviewed in Jockey Slut, Knowledge, Ministry (where it was leftfield single of the month), 7 and DJ. As Jockey Slut pointed out it was "wonderfully familiar and fantastically naïve", which Si attributes to the fact that in NZ they "are not subjected to hype .. and are (therefore) allowed to make a genuine connection with things we love." Based in Queenstown, Si is one of New Zealand's finest DJs, his style is very cut and paste and mix-up veering from ragga to dancehall to jungle to hip hop to funk in the space of minutes, it seems.

12" boot was 'released' around the turn of the century, fantastic track... with a nice on u mashup on the flip

as for the nature of this thread, Joylon is but one of tens of thousands looking to make something of Micael Jackson's demise - not very tasteful but watch the news for some really really untasteful MJ action

our media are cocks so how can one expect others not to follow suit?

Lets have a comp, who can make the best/stoopidest MJ boot!!
Must be post Thriller.

Yes! I think I have that one.
It was a bit slower from memory.

As RobW pointed out in the lounge, there's also a decent thomas schumacher remake.

You really don't get it do you? Your defence to the suggestion you are using the global awareness of a recently deceased artist to push your own profile is "Ya'll got a chip on your shoulders 'cause it's hot where I live!" You haven't once addressed the issue. And if making people from your hometown jealous is your professional motivation then you've sadly and repeatedly missed your mark.

Had you simply posted the link to your bootleg and not followed it with a look-at-me DJ profile write-up then you wouldn't have got the reaction you got.

If you don't see an issue then I guess we can agree to disagree. You think it's totally acceptable to 'pay your respects' to a recently deceased superstar, his family and his estate by giving away his music for free. I think it's a cheap and distasteful attempt to piggy-back the hype and success of someone else's talents. My sentiments would have been the same if Louie Vega made the intial post; don't make this about your ego.

I've now given two reasoned responses, you've yet to give one level-headed reply pertaining to the issue. Try to broach the subject instead of talking about the weather or, worse yet, run off to the mods.

jeeze - i haven't been to this site in ages and you still can't edit your fuckin' posts!

lol

Fixed the link.

FYI, like I said - before you guys get on the high horse, this tune was made it 2001 when the remastered Thriller and Off The Wall albums came out (with extra audio outtakes) so it's been sitting around since then.

Good time to have another listen to it now.
