Melbourne or Sdyney??

I'm thinking of possible moving over sometime this year. Just a few questions:

Whats like the average apartment rent charge in these cities? (mainly looking at the CBD area)

Also what is transportation like?

And which city has less spiders?

Melbourne... at the moment rental prices are really cheap even in the CBD cause they have built so many appartments and they can't fill them they are very negotiable on rental prices!

If you are sharing you can get one for anywhere from $100 - $150 and a one bedroom from $150 - $250.

The great thing is that public transport ie: trains and trams are so good you can move further out and get into the city on Trams that run pretty much every 5 minutes!!

Sydney shits all over Melbourne!

Melbourne rocks! Its laid back with friendly people, full of culture, great social scene...the list goes on!

Sydney is cool but i found the people very clicky and pretentious. Its all about image.

hehe - am going through a bit of this myself i know sydney pretty well, and am going to give melbourne a look midyear. unless i find a job first!

i loved sydney though, the harbour, the weather... the apartments are bloody expensive though, and i found service staff (in shops, cafes etc) and people on the street generally quite rude, which i think is a downfall of a big city.

The transport comment is very true.
With Sydney there was no planning with motorways etc, so if you live out of CBD its a bitch in peak hour.

The habours are great in sydney, but Melbourne is better in so many other areas.
If you like your breakbeat then you can rule sydney out anyway!

Move to Sydney almost a year ago and LOVE it with passion leaves Akl for dust. I believe it is a numbers game i.e. the bigger the population the more oppotunities. It's all about what you make of it. Public transport is really good in comparison to NZ, so is the hourly rate....

You should visit each city for a small holiday first so that you know why you chose Melbourne

Seriously... If you like Auckland and want something simliar, go to Sydney. Same goes with wellington and Melbourne. Or if you really want a change, mix it up a little

Melbourne is the Wellington of Australia and Sydney is the Auckland of Australia.
