Melbourne here I come...

Ok so I'm new to this room... hey everyone! I'm heading over to Melbourne from wellies in early march and just wanted to say that i'd be keen to meet up with some fellow biggies and to hit the towns, if ya can't be bothered with that shit just point me in the right directions of some good bars/clubs.

Well i'm into my DnB bigtime, but also like a lot of other stuff (everything and anything), I'm espically loving the local music like Sal Dub, Trinity Roots, The Nomad, rhombus etc. I think i'm heading to St Kilda or round about. my email addy is stich_6@freshlife.tv flick us an ewmail and we can chat more

Sal Dub are based in Fitzroy I think. and it's hard to find the NZ dub and roots sound here.

Sunday afternoon at Black Cat (Brunswick St in Fitzroy) is your best bet.

As for DnB.... There is/was a kiwi lead DnB night in fitzroy that is free. I think it is still going I never got there myself. Keep an eye out for "Prime Mover" which now has it's home at "2 floors up" in the city.

Ahhh those who suffer from penis envy, finish last.

There are a couple of reasons I wouldn't live in St Kilda.

1. Too far away from the type of vibe that I like- which can be found in Fitzroy.
2. It's more possey and pretentious.
3. It attracts some wankers who go out there for the wrong reasons. making me not feel as safe at night as other parts of the city.

I realise that every suberb has a little bit of those things, but St Kilda seems to have a bit more than what I want to put up with.
And I am not fussed about being near a beach.

Im pickin St Kilda cos I liked it when I have been there, its close to the city and the beach, and most importantly, its where a major client of mine is, so an easy walk!

Well...

All things going well I will be moving into my own little home in Queens Road which is close to both St Kilda and the City!! Fingers crossed. So... if anyone is coming to visit I will have a spare couch beddy thing for you to sleep on!!

st kilda is by far the most dodgy part of melbourne by night, and you can pick the noob kiwis out in st kilda... their the ones stupid enuf to walk along the beach/go in the water (not a good idea at all).
st kilda by night is not only home to a lot of clubs/bars etc. but also the red light ultra seedy district and stacks of junkies.
fitzroy can be pretty dodgy too tho... not quite the same tho...

Also. with any amount of popularity (city, bar, club, event etc) you get ppl who turn up simply because they think it is the "cool" thing to do. Not because they actually like what that city, venue etc has to offer.
They go there cos "more ppl are there so it must be good, right?"

And where there are ppl turning up for the wrong reason, there is trouble.

I feel this way about St Kilda at night.
Only go there for gigs at the Prince of Wales or the Palace occasionally.

Sometimes they have some good music in a smaller bar, but I don't own a checkered shirt and hate wearing sunglasses at night, so I don't go.
