Big-hitting New Zealand star Brendon McCullum has been hired to open the batting for NSW in Saturday's interstate Twenty20 final against Victoria.

A bit wtf? But makes sense. A bit stink for whoever he is forcing out of their team for the final.
[quote]
more than likely he is taking David Warner's place, because David Warner will be playing in the ODI vs South Africa.

David Warner is that guy that scored 84 in the first T20 against South Africa.

Seems a bit crap you can get a ringer in for one game tho.... will be good if he goes well... they might end up regretting giving him a chance to find some form before the Chappell-Hadlee

Interesting squad for that series:

Not sure it's the best idea to blood players against Aus (even now)... we've already got a lot of rookies in the side...

Crikey that is an awfully green team to be taking on Australia.

Shocked

Brendon Diamanti an all-rounder?

one day stats

bat av 21.08
bowl av 28.60

first class stats

bat 20.76
bowl 36.18

is he meant to be a batting or a bowling allrounder?

lets hope he is better than his statistics suggest
[quote]
Been around a while eh? Plays for CD maybe? Very mediocre from what I remember?

I may be totally confused though. Heh.

:>

[quote]
yeah, been around a while.

In his last one day domestic game (yesterday) he was out for a duck and went for 7+ runs an over without taking a wicket, so he's certainly in good form Razz
[quote]
yeah well, those sort of players can prove quite useful at international level (when you don't have true talent around)... Some of them grow into the game, e.g. Harris, Styris... they probably had very average domestic records when they started
[quote]
Yeah it's an awfully green team although Aussie have, by their standards, quite a green team as well so maybe it isn't such a bad time to blood new players. I agreed with the dropping of Gillespie and Flynn though. Dizzy is horribly out of form and I've been bagging him for ages so it would be incongruous to o back on that now Razz and Flynn just hasn't found the right way to tackle an ODI yet. Great in test matches where he can scratch around and take time to get in but in the shorter versions he's really struggled to keep his run rate up.

Hopefully Taylor keeps his form going, he'll find those aussie piches to his liking if he keeps his patience intact early on in his innings...
[quote]
As for McCullum, I think any opportunity for him to get some form back before we take on the aussies is a good one. He'll be better off in the aussie domestic league than our own for preparation anyhow!

Symonds - twat... As pointed out in today's Herald, he has played for three different county teams in England as well as the IPL.

No, but it ruins Symonds' logic.. He said on the news that his issue was McCullum's playing in the team preventing an Aussie from being there - Which is exactly what Symonds was doing in all of his appearances in the English leagues... (albeit they were the original and far more import friendly).
[quote]
Aussie commentators on ABC yesterday were saying that people have to remember that these 20/20 teams are effectively franchise teams, not Australian representative teams. So much like the NRL, teams should feel free to employ people from overseas.
[quote]
Welcome to the future of cricket, when the NZ domestic TT comp gets a spot in the Champions League we will also import random mercenaries. In fact...thats probably going to be a whole different type of career for some, travelling the glove popping up in various TT comps in the hope one of your teams wins one and you can cash in

And a fucking great big LOL @ Symonds who showed once again what a mindless twit he really is

"Un Australian" Laughing yeah cos Australian cricketers have such wonderful reputations, thats right up there with Ponting talking about "the spirit of the game"

Symonds was born in England. So technically he could argue that he wasn't taking a place away from English players.

He wasn't born in India yet was happy to accept $1.5 million in american cash for playing for Hyderabad.

I laughed more tho cos I read it the same as Maestro. Laughing
[quote]
Fuckin hell! That's a pretty full on rant. He just doesn't care does he?

Oh well, the next time those two play each other will be interesting...

Well, there's talk that there'll be a cricket version of the Super 14, with teams from NZ, Aus and SA. NZ will probably get 2 teams (the others 3), and the top 2 or so will qualify for the champions league...

Cricket is really changing... we just have to hope Test cricket doesn't suffer

Interesting comments from Hayden...

quote:
"It is reflective of how disappointing the international program has been for New Zealand more than anything," Hayden said in the Australian. "It's a real indictment on their cricket that you can have one of the elite players in world cricket not being able to play the volume of cricket with the earning capacity that most international athletes can expect.

"It's pretty tough. I feel very sympathetic towards a country like New Zealand, which has some wonderful cricketers but they don't get enough international opportunities. What's the ICC doing?"

Just heard on the radio that McCullum only scored 10.

yup... never really looked comfortable. Tried to hit a few, but kept on mis-hitting them.

NSW still won though, so suck Victoria. This coupled with the AUS defeat yesterday will make for much lulz with my victoria mates...
