Presenting a rare performance by two of Aoteroa’s techno stalwarts: Matt Drake & Miles Kuen. FU have managed to entice the duo for one night of hitech funk and tribal lowend theory.

Not to be missed, this is their first performance of 2003, and we can expect nothing but the most forward thinking dancefloor grooves and turntable dynamics.

Djs: Matt Drake - Miles Kuen - Chay D

FU Bar - 14th March - Doors Open 11pm

for the sake of local teckno its good to see past disagreements put aside.
thats real cool of you FU, nice one!

same goes for putting michael geddes back into circulation, he played some great techno a few weeks back.

Exactly - the more you guys go to fu, and support djs playing techno the more they can keep playing the sound. SNAFU nights on fridays and saturdays are based around a techno core from dubby to club so go for a few hours, dont just leave cos the dj is on a deep or hard tip (whichever you like least here) when you happen to walk in. Techno sets should obviously be more structured than monotonous, so expect the ebb and flow.
The nights are attempting to give full spectrum techno is all its guises, and yes the occaisonal house or breaks tune as well, but its all about the attitude of the music innit. Guys like peat i always see out supporting (and demanding harder! heh). Repect.
All the djs you guys mention have played at fu in the past, but there needs to be a crowd there at every night to keep the momentum happening, they cant exactly play and create a club Tresor type vibe with 10 people in the bar now can they, let alone convince others that that techno deserves representing, ya dig?

Go along often and take others with you or else you better be prepared to sit here on the net and bitch about how there no techno at all in Auckland. Nuff sed.

Good call - come on everyone, it's not hard, make it down, even if it's for a couple of drinks.

The lineups are all solid, you can't do better!!! And as Slug says, if you have a preference for certain parts of the spectrum, hang about a bit, everyone's a diverse dj and will most probably be moving it about, so stick around... Technosnobbery is a bad look Wink

Just got word that anthony rother live, pascal feos, and stanney franssen are touring australia... things like this would be possible if we had more support, so it's now up to people to spread the word, and drag people along to the gigs that happen... one day we might be able to host Mills again Smile

Hang on a sec... isnt the 50cent album release party on the same night at fu?

[quote]
Jason Ng - The 50 Cent Release party is in Fu (Big Room) and Miles and Matt are in Fu Bar, $10 for both or $5 for just Fu Bar.

ahhhh...tresor..

So how was it all?

Unfortunately I was in Welli basking in sun, coffee, and beauty. Oh yeah and crap loads of Drum and Bass =)

How many sorry ass people actually made it into town. No offence, but the turn out on Thursday at Fu, was dismal. Mista King deserves a bit more support than that, and he played a great set too, all it was missing was people.

Actually on that note why aren't more techno DJs getting out and supporting each other gigs?
[quote]
thanks nikolai, the good news is that on thursday, it got busy again about 40 mins later. Thursdays seem to have an early crowd and then a late for some reason, but that is why thursdays tend to be on the more dubbytech/housey end of the spectrum.

If you had of come on Friday, you would have seen more techno djs than you could shake a stick at, well represented. Chaye D warmed things up nicely, with a fine flow of his deeper flavours (was that a house tune i heard Chaye? heh), before Matt came on and played (from memory - i WAS drinking seeing as i wasnt working!) a good clubby sound, active in the mix with lady pleasers such as "Force" thrown in to a good reception from dancefloor. I personally had a good time dancing, especially to Miles set, which was more driving and minimal (my prefered dancefloor groove), although he lost me with one tune that had some house bass breakdown (i dont remember the tune it was sourced from) - nothing risked, nothing gained tho eh?

As ive said before, im not good, or dont like for that matter discussing a gig after the fact, as YOU SHOULD be there, so i will leave it at that.

Sat night was also very good, nice to have a good dancefloor for most of the night, and to hear Silverbeat and Simon Flower having the chance to get out of first gear and play some harder grooves.

Im feeling pretty optimistic about SNAFU at the moment, its been a good few weeks, so be seeing you soon no doubt.

Obviously im no review writer Razz

Yeah sat was alot of fun, biggup Slug, Silverbeat and Simon Flower. Mr Flowers set from 1-2(?) was probably my favourite, kindof a more mellow flowing style, nice stuff.

Good work fu, Matt and Miles, play on a sat night next time Smile
