My beloved Daily Show feed has, as of this week, been blocked to the UK due to dirty scody Channel 4 complaining about licensing issues.

I know there are ways to hide your IP address but I need to specifically make it look like I am in the USA so I can continue to watch this online.

What software/websites do you use, that you’d recommend?

Cheers Mr. Green

those bastards.

You could try installing this application:

http://anchorfree.com/downloads/hotspot-shield/

It's made to protect you on free wifi networks, but a side-effect is that it routes you through a US-based proxy. This may have a detrimental effect on performance though, and could affect something requiring constant bandwidth, like streaming the Daily Show.

Yeah...will try that. I had run it through a few browser-based ones but either it tstill came up blocked or wouldn't let flash player run (I'd imagine because of the bandwidth issue).

I figure if kiwis can watch iplayer through some mechanism, I must be able to get into the USA. Same thing applies to SNL and other Comedy Central stuff so any workaround I can get working would make me very happy.

EZTV do daily torrents of the Daily Show (and a load of other dailys).

Possibly if you can find the right one you could add an RSS feed to uTorrent or similar that will download just the Daily Show every day automatically. That would be ideal imo.

bump

I was having the same problem, but found this workaround.

I can confirm it works

I have been using anchorfree. As you expected, it hasn’t been brilliant, the bandwidth is noticeably less, so watching a full show is impractical due to a 10 sec buffering period every 30-45 sec. But the clips work fine even if the vid quality drops down and I usually prefer the clips anyway.

I will try that config change. I can’t use iplayer when anchorfree is connected (as, obviously, iplayer thinks I’m in the USA) but it’s really easy to turn on and off. If the changing of those settings upsets iplayer then anchorfree is the best workaround.

On the brighter side, it has been really nice being able to watch SNL. Mr. Green

Has a lot of proxies from all over the world.

It doesn't upset iPlayer, and I'm still able to go to http://www.thedailyshow.com/ (in Firefox) and watch videos on the site.

I don't watch SNL, so not sure whether this works for that.

Works fine for TDS but didn't work for Hulu.

Any idea whether the FF add-on can be configured for other services?
