One would think you'd have to be pretty quick.

he's 47 I think , those old eyes and feet cant be moving too quick

Does anyone think he can actually succeed at 1st class cricket?

As one approaching a similar vintage, I don't think eyes and feet and reactions are going to be the problem. They are the last things to go.

The problem is going to be fitness and hunger. When you are in your mid-forties even niggling injuries take fucking forever to go away and your recovery time isn't a massage and a sauna at the close of play followed by an early night - it is sleeping in the next day and slopping about the house in your jim jams all day as well. And when you hit forty you are just not as angry (or at least you shouldn't be) as you were at twenty. You don't want to smash that bastard out of the park anymore. You just want to have a bit of a swing and a giggle and perk the appetite for the buffet lunch.

He'll probably do all right for a while at the beginning of the season, but he just won't be able to re-generate fast enough and his form will drop right off after a few games, mark my words.

Yep. Well known that batsman over 35 - and remember a lot used to play past that age in the old days - become gun shy vs quick, short bowling. older doesnt just mean slower reactions, there are also psychological changes

If only life were like that. Razz

Jase McGeorge might get a chance to bowl at him if Crowe's playing premier grade club cricket in Auckland. That would be really cool for him.

Paddy was hitting the ball flush in the Masters 20/20, looked better than half the Blackcaps.

Bit sad I reckon.

Definitely! I'll attend it for sure if I'm not playing on the same day. :>

Martin Crowe = awesome.

Martin Crowe said:
"I have never experienced an hour's batting like that in my life; it's the slowest, deadest pitch I've played on. It's not what cricket's about as far as I'm concerned. That [block] needs to be dug up. It is shocking. It does nothing for any young kid playing. I hope that's an exception to the rule. They're better off not even cutting it. It didn't have a heartbeat for the poor bowlers.

"I don't mind it zipping around like when I played on doctored green tops for [Richard] Hadlee at Trent Bridge and Lancaster Park - but that's a great challenge when the ball's bouncing round your ankles. There's been slightly more action in Bulawayo.

"Then there's the behaviour - appealing for everything. It's worse than anything I've experienced in Asia. I told them I was disappointed. Carry on like that and you don't deserve decisions to go in your favour because you've got no respect for the game." Crowe put in a plea to be promoted to premier level as soon as possible to get a better standard of play and pitches: "It's up to the coach [Rex Smith]. He's decided not to play me so I'm going to bat as long as I can to get runs. I just feel I came back because I wanted the challenge of premier cricket. I got through things today and I'm not injured."

heh I love this story, its so amusing how clued up yet naive Martin Crower can be. Here the guy who pretty much invented 20/20 yet he makes a comeback and expects the pitch in 2nd grade prem cricket to be just like the last ones he batted on at Lords etc

Gets 15. Dropped twice. Holes out to a full toss. Apparently slots straight into the Cornwall 1at 11 this weekend for "proving his fitness" Very Happy
