Tannoys.

But then I am a fanboy of them.

Reeeeeeeaaallllllllllllllllllllllllyyy

I thought the HR's would be better than the Reveal series

I guess I just thought the mackies sounded sooo good was they were demo'd after KRK V8's ..... which sounded like mud after hearing the HR's
[quote]
check out the genelecs, same price range, I think they are 8020a's with matching sub, that was my pick out of the lot
[quote]
Tannoys are the better pick.... I listened to all of them when buying my setup. and in the end I went for Jbl's LSR range. 12 inch sub and 8 inch monitors for under 5k... Sound greta too
[quote]
has anyone here compared the tannoys to KRK's V6's to Genelec - Particularly the Genelec 8205a?
[quote]
the KRK's sounded like mud compared to the Mackies HR so if the tannoys are better then the mackies

well you can work it out ...

hmmm the mackies just look soo much cooler the tannoys though ?

Were they all set up the same?

Assume nothing.

REALLY?????

I've owned various monitor speakers over the last 4 years and I can safely say that tannoys are the WORST of them. STAY AWAY

I've had some 824mkII for the last month and they are really good.

However if I had known how good adam monitors are at ther time I got my mackies, i would have gone with them

One other thing to consider is the room you are in, no point having kick ass monitors if your room sounds like mud.

I recently got my hand on the LK multimedia ARC room tuning kit. It works a treat!!!! Before I applied it, I'd take a tune that sounded great in the studio and it would be ass on a stereo or club system, the arc sorted it all out, really reccommend it

Mackies! Shocked
tannoys blow monkey's b*lls! Very Happy

Any actual reasons WHY? Were they not flattering enough to your mixes?

Laughing

filatlarge - did you notice that you would end up with a completely differnt measurement whenever you moved the microphone?

While I can see the use of EQing your monitor chain, it is really a case of treating the symptom, not the cause.

Have you checked out these? On the pricey end, but worth a listen if you can...

sorry, i don't understand all these flash modern technical terms... is this like a pancake or more like a muesli bar?
[quote]
Oatcakes, mainly.

had a listen to a pair Genelec 8205a's yesterday (without sub or digital self-tuning enable) and thought they were pretty mint actually...

would like to compare them to the Adam speakers...

only negative thing i've heard about the tannoy's is that they can come across a little too top heavy...??
[quote]
The dual-concentric metal horn tweeters do have a sound of their own. They also lend themselves to an incredible sound stage though.

One which I really like, but some find a little too much.

proof

you have to do at least 12 measurements around your listening area before you can get a curve response, the more you do, the more accurate the response is....

I think I did about 20

As far as the tannoys are concerned, they are really lacking in bass, mine only went down to 65 hertz,
[quote]
also a short explaination of how it works

first, measure your room, the ARC records the response and makes a little file.

open your DAW and insert ARC vst into the last slot on your master output.

load the response file into ARC. now the sound coming out of your speakers will match your room and should be totally flat.

Once your have finished and are ready for your final bounce, turn the ARC off, and bounce

So the ARC is only on while you are actually making the track....

I really can't state enough how good this bit of kit is..... I know it sounds like a bit of a wierd thing to be doing, BUT IT REALLY WORKS!!!!!

Best thing I've bought in ages.......
[quote]
So the whole room is averagely wrong now? Including the places that didn't have any issues?

You in Auckland? If you want I might be able to pop round one day and measure the now flat room.. Wink

1. The 8D's go 'down' to 46Hz
2. The D denotes that they have active assist, which is an active EQ speaker EQ system that requires you to measure your room in several place.

Not that I would ever want to compensate for room acoustics with EQ.

Treating a physical issue with EQ is not they way I would approach it, it also will not address the primary reflections, at all.

I'm sure its cheaper that proper acoustic treatment though.

In christchurch, but would really like to get a true measurement..

What software do you use can already got a measurement mic??

my studio is treated pretty well.... Two layers of carpet over the whole room for a start.. Got foam panels, bass traps, and angled walls as I built this from scratch, but was still having problems mainly due to the small size of the room affecting bass response

Keen to hear any other ideas from anyone about whast they are doing to fix their studio issues
[quote]
How much do you have in there in the way of bass traps?
[quote]
I don't like my HR-824 MKIIs.

They have a strange low end. I also think they're too big sounding. Your mixes often end up sounding small because of this.
