Did anyone here get arrested over New Years for possessing alcohol?

Someone I know was actually arrested around the mount on 2 Jan for having alcohol in their car. Sealed alcohol - they weren't drinking it. After the cops made them pour it all ($250 worth) in the gutter, the cops started reading everyone in the car their rights and charged them. This now gives those people a "criminal record" and causes all forms of unimaginable inconveniences when they want to travel! I can't believe what we as a society have stooped to...

yeah my mate got done he had sum alcohol in the boot and the cop found it and put him in the cells for 2 hours and $300 fine now that just sucks. glad i was not drinking.

had he said "yep, we've got alcohol" when they asked, or did they search his car and find it?

Everyone had fair warning. If you're dumb enough to risk it, you deserve to get fined and have your NYE ruined. Natural selection. *shrug*

What warning did people travelling through the mount on 2 Jan for the first time have? Can't say I knew about it where I am, so if I'd decided to go for a roadtrip that way?

Hmm, well the 2 Jan thing sounds suspicious if you ask me, but all the major 'New years' spots had the liquor bans. They were pretty well publicised. Ahh well, I dunno. *shrug*

You get what you deserve. If you want to drink and get drunk at New Years, why bother going to a place that has a liquor ban?

I agree harvey, but the possession of alcohol itself should not warrant an arrest.

I assume the alcohol was bought to be drunken in a place where there was an alcohol ban?
[quote]
of course not! it was in the car to be drunk down on the East Cape.

A friend was in the same situation with sealed alkihol in their car in a banned area. They asked the cop what they were supposed to do if they were taking it back, unopened from the likka store. Officer plod had no answer so they didn't get charged Smile

you just need to find a holiday destination that isn't so rife with underage drinkers and rioters and then you won't have to worry about alcohol bans.

true true twinkle, but the issue is should people get actually arrested for it. I have no problems with people losing their alcohol to the gutter...

Yeah, if I think about me being in that situation it would be totally unfair if i got arrested for it but then i'd have to just tell myself I knew what i was doing was wrong but did it anyway so it's ultimately my fault. You're right though, getting arrested seems a bit much. but then the law's the law
