They were giving away free tix to past years' ticket holders?
[quote]
They announced around 5pm it was free entry for those who could be bothered wearing an old bdo tee or taking an old ticket before 8pm

Tony Hawk drew a crowd

weird but fun day...
[quote]
I bet all those people who paid full price for tickets were chuffed they let in a whole lot of people for free. If you wanted to make sure no one could ever resurrect the brand, then that free entry move was a pearler.
[quote]
better a crowd than none at all fishy... those that paid got a whole day's enjoyment (or the potential for)

not sure if the crowd were so petty & small minded to begrudge some extra bodies to party with who got in last minute for free

Really don't get this mentality... people actually think like this?

[quote]
Why wouldn't they? If I paid for a ticket then found a whole lot of people there who hadn't paid and were enjoying the same experience I'd be pissed. Why was it good enough for me to pay but not others?
[quote]
I don''t understand it because letting those people in doesn't have any effect on you having a fun night?

Friend paid. Texted me re freebie. Needed company. I didn't go.
[quote]
I had an extra ticket I couldn't give away too

silly, at worst it was a nice day sitting on the grass enjoying a shitty local beer and some ok bands, which given our lovely summer thus far... was a nice bonus

I would have taken a free tik to see Cavalera Conspiracy. Anyone see their set?

Two quotes that lead to mirth: first from granny; second from itm

Girl Talk, 6.30pm, Boiler Room Gregg Gillis told the sizeable crowd gathered at the Boiler Room that he'd come to party - and party he did, along with 50-odd scantily clad friends he invited onto the Boiler Room stage with him. It's lucky the mash-up king, who goes by the DJ name of Girl Talk, wore sweat pants, because the dude is one sweaty beast as he mixes everything from Beyonce and Kylie Minogue to 50 Cent and Notorious BIG into huge, danceable anthems. As for the dude showering the crowd in toiler paper, that was a big waste of three-
ply man.

mr flauge last Friday:
I'm sick of hearing this bullshit about festivals dying. As far as I can see, more people are attending festivals these days. Just coz the big day out has easily the most rubbish lineup in it's history, and no one wants to pay 180.00 to see Kanye West who is average or watch girl talk press play and shoot toilet paper at them...... Festivals aren't dead, but if you throw a dud lineup and try to charge people a quarter of their salary to attend, your festival is.

Soundgarden were SO.FUCKING.AWESOME.. setlist was pretty much half of Badmotorfinger with a few classic checked in from Superunknown...sounded amazing up the front...Matt Cameron is a god, without a doubt one of the best live drummers I've seen.

As over Sg as I am, do have to agree with you about Matt Cameron. Same with Kim and Ben. One of the best backing bands ever.
Does he still play for Pearl Jam?
[quote]
Yeah, so over SoundGarden and Chris Cornel's singing.

Totally man, they were all awesome. Matt Camerons backup vocals helped carry Chris at times.. Cornell was awesome though, just when you thought he was straining/losing it he'd come back into full range, def more at home singing the old stuff too.. Obviously 15 years is going to do something to a voice like that though

Pretty sure Matt Cameron is still in Pearl Jam as well

I heard from a mate/Sepultura fan that they were below-par but it was still good to see them play Chaos AD and Roots Bloody Roots

Slaves and Bulldozers off Batmotorfinger is the greatest Soundgarden sound ever and is even more awesome live. I remember it at the '07 BDO distinctly as they stretched it out into this massive sleazy sweaty low slinging epic, Kim Thayil was playing the guitar behind his head, Chris Cornell groling into the mike, Mike smashing the drums like he caught them fucking his mother... Awesome...

Fuckin love it. Gutted to have missed out on a freebie Soundgarden concert... Sad
[quote]
Yeah they played that as well...setlist:

Searching With My Good Eye Closed
Spoonman
Let Me Drown
Jesus Christ Pose
Outshined
Rusty Cage
Blow Up the Outside World
The Day I Tried to Live
My Wave
Ugly Truth
Fell on Black Days
Drawing Flies
Ty Cobb
Black Hole Sun
Room a Thousand Years Wide
Slaves & Bulldozers

People with principles?

and what principle would this cross?

passing up a free lunch?

[quote]
Meh, maybe I'm a cunt (OK, yeah, I am) but I would be fucked off about paying $160 for an event that then A) went half price/2 4 1 and B) then went completely FREE! It's bullshit for those who paid full price
[quote]
its unfortunate for those that paid fullprice that many didn't have to but its not exactly uncommon for promoters to pad out venues with freebees when sales are low - refer to most events held at the St James in days gone by for example

all them backpackers
[quote]
Usually done in a far less public way than announcements on all forms of media saying HEY COME ON DOWN!
[quote]
true but given it was the 'last bdo' one can understand the desire to go out with as much as a bang as the crowd could muster hence the offer of free entry - totally destroying any attempt to revive the brand in NZ for at least a year if not longer, as who would pre buy tickets

[quote]

If I had two large screen tellys I was selling, you bought one from me, then later you saw me giving away the other one, you wouldn't be a bit annoyed?
[quote]
depends on how you look at it.

If I had actually gone to the trouble of purchasing an item, then I would be happy with the price I had paid for it. If I see someone getting a cheaper price obviously you could be upset or you could remember that at the time of purchase it was worth X dollars, and the product hasn't changed in any way.

annoyed - sure thats natural... to a point, but its your TVs do what you will with them - more fool me if I paid for that which someone else got off you for free

I'd be angry if you said you were giving away TVs and you made me pay a fee where others you did not

oh bugger it I've been on these boards long enough for you all to know whatever you do with your TVs I'll be grumpy as hell... *shakes fist*

Poor defence - remember, people initially paid full price BEFORE the event was gutted.

And clearly, it wasn't worth $X at al.

If you think the freebie offering was any more than a ploy to get more people thru the gates to spend money with the various concession holders, you're smoking crack. That action is fine, and good on them for it since a lot of those guys would have stocked up anticipating much bigger crowds. But lets not try making a silk purse out of a used BDO ticket scrounged up from a drawer.

Can't believe people complained about the fact they let people in for free with an old ticket.

The show was half-finished by then anyway!

While I'm sure you're right, it's overly cynical to assume that sentimentalism and a desire to see a big crowd fill the stadium didn't also play a part in the decision.

Just talking to my sister about her experience.
She has been to 10 or so in NZ and OZ over the years, she said this one was her best one yet, and the main bad publicity only seems to be coming from those that did not go.
