Need a bit of help with this.
I've got a compaq 2143 laptop, when I hook it up to the TV the desktop shows up fine, tho not really easy to read.
The problem is that when I go to play a video file, ie: avi, mpeg ,dvd, it plays on the laptop screen, but not on the TV ?
I've tried the usual google search & Compaq help, but they are no help .

Anyone got an idea what the problem is ?

you tried full screen?

ive heard of this problem being part of the overlay function of a media player and possibly a driver issue - that about all i can tell you tho...

Hi ya Bob,
Yeah I tried full screen & have just download & installed the latest drivers...still nothing
Seems really weird that the desktop should show up ok but not any video.. if I use media player the visualisations so up..just not the movies..
so like you say it's gotta be a driver issue.
hmm my desktop has a leadtek vivo card.. might cart that out to the lounge & see if I can play them thru that

Pissing me off, I hate it when things don't work that should, and I don't know why Mad

gp into the adaptor settings and see if you can just send the overlay to the tv output some cards support that.

I get the same problem on my Compaq laptop, nuts. Confused

Someone suggested that it might be a XP problem, they reckoned that under win2k everything was fine, I dunno.

One of the reasons for getting the laptop was so I could play DVD's etc thru the TV

ha got it sorted Very Happy

here is what I found at the compaq help site

To view the movie on one of the displays, make that display the ''Primary'' one. Here are the steps to change the designation of a display from ''Secondary'' to ''Primary.''
Perform the following steps to allow the display device to display the DVD movie on the primary controller:

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Display icon.
3. Click the Settings tab.
4. Click the Advanced button at the bottom of the window.
5. Click the Displays tab at the top of the dialog box. The pictures in this box show the status of the Monitor, Panel, and TV display devices.
6. Click the blue button under the desired display device to select the primary controller. The blue button toggles between primary and secondary.
8. Verify that Primary Controller is selected for the display device on which the DVD movie should be displayed.
9. Click the OK button.

you think they could have made it clear in the manual.. instead of searching thru lots of web pages.
