I prefer Laneways as a word, like to think of it as the kiwi version of this festival

St Jerome don't mean shit to me (it was a now closed bar/venue and I assume not by coincidence one of the founders of the festivals christian name - first name for the non-believers)

anyways yesterday was great fun, the lines for food, coupons and beer were a bloody pain (not as bad as the first years and I doubt anything will compare with Aotea for magic setup and day) and the venue so needed more shadey sit down/chillout areas but for a first crack at the festivals home (for now) the sapce worked quite well

bands were all good but none blew me away

very white well behaved middle class audience as expected in this new "indy scene"...

in short would so do that again

I really really wanna like Laneway, but it's hard when there's only 2 acts I know the names of on the lineup, and I loathe one of them and couldn't even recognise a song by the other. (Shayne Carter and Goyte)

Oh well. Too unhip I guess.

and whilst not of the 'carter is god camp' he has awesome stage presence something very few musicians have so seeing him live even on a crap day is something

Drink coupons are by far the worst possible system possible, I don't know why festivals persist with them when they are ALWAYS a massive gripe from punters. They basically force people to queue twice - those who push the system claim this doesn't happen as the coupons speed things up once acquired but it always does. I guess that was just compounded by the whole system going down.

I would've liked to go as I've been giving modern rock a chance lately and have been pleasantly surprised by a lot of it - and there were a few bands playing I'd like to have seen... But I just hate hipsters too much.

M83 were the highlight, as I expected. Agree with the queues for drinks though, I didn't even think about waiting to get coupons until 4 in the afternoon, fuck waiting an hour to get them.
