Yeah, so everyone's slung their mud over Unity, in terms of a party. But what did people think of Sandy Rivera, DJ-wise?

I didn't hear as much of him as I woulda like (for reasons I've slung mud over) but was a little disappointed. He's the bomb DJ, no doubting that. But I woulda thought he'd have played more soulful, US garage styles, seeing as he was billed as KOT.

I know he's a renowned tribal DJ - and he blew up playing that kinda set, but where was the beautiful vocals? Anywayz, how cool was that "Pulp Fiction" sampling track he opened with? And, go the sirens! - very old skool.

The few seconds I did manage to spend in that room...I was VERY impressed. Haven't heard that type of sound for years - best I've seen in ages

Too true - very old skool and very cool

Sandy Rivera was awesome but i think Churchill played a slightly better set!

all the dj's were mint even Havoc pulled out a stormer of a set.

scandal, i agree it shouldn't have been promoted as KOT cos it wasn't really like that at all no US garage to be seen anywhere.

I'm sure for a few weeks it was even promoted "with guest vocalist" (presumably Julie McKnight)... I heard "Finally" the first time he dropped it and didn't notice anyone doing live vocals at that stage.
[quote]
yeah i think they did but it was never gonna be a us garage night with soane opening & churchill closing aye!

i was quite gutted that i didn't hear finally cos believe or not i can't actually ever recall hearing it on a big system.

Yeah, the Grand Circle was as big as I've ever heard it until Sandy dropped the dance ritual mix at Suana-ty.

Tenaglia's mix got played at the very end of the night - but I couldn't last that long.

I must admit I went expecting to hear some soulful house and something more like the KOT album "Its in the Lifestyle" but he was great all the same. Julie stepping up to sing Finally live at the start of the set would have made my night.

What about Entre Nous though for soulful funky house? Doesnt get better huh?
[quote]
Entre Nous are good, if you are into them you might want to check the Funky Reverends, resident at Velvet for the past couple of years - kinda got that whole live house band thing started, so yeah, it does get better. Put it this way, they get the main room at Velvet. Need I say more?

live house has got that little something extra.

live sets get u way more into it in comparison to djs spinning (no disrespect to djs intend).

pnau last year were amazing at the HoD release party.
[quote]
yeah, thats pretty much what we have been saying for the past couple or 3 years, we love our djs, but we also love our live musicians, you have probably noticed the trend to combine the two in the last 12 months. The reason is simple, it rocks.

and yeah, Pnau are the shit.

re Scandal

He's the bomb DJ... I know he's a renowned tribal DJ

Very wrong on both comments. the people I know who heard him play who also dj all said he was pretty average and quick technically. And as for being a renowned tribal dj. WTF are you on and what magazines do you read?
[quote]
dtour, he is a tribal dj, he releases lots of tribal/big type house choons. He also had a turntable bouncing all over the shot which takes your confidence away from doing 2 min mixes. Most djs are quick to critise big name djs cos they have higher expectations.
Yup i was a bit miffed about no garage choons but entre nous made up for that

yeah, what touch said.
