For years now - I have had fairly stiff (to the point of mild discomfort when stretching) knees, and tight tendons/muscles behind the knee, back of leg..

I am starting to do regular stretched again - but also wondering if there is a particular type of specialist that might also be able to help out a bit?

Not sure if its a deep tissue / skeletal / ligament / what thing - so not sure where the first port of call would be..

suggestions?

Osteopath would be your best bet dude. They deal in all things musculo-skeletal.

Stretching - as in Yoga...

More correctly - preliminary joint mobility exercises.. Razz

some of the stretching in yoga can be particularly hard on knees proof

It can be. I cant even come close to anything resembling that though.

I sometimes wonder if it was years of sitting in seiza that did it.

similar to virasana?

Hips Between Ankles
Ankles wider than knees
Butt cheeks lowered toward floor between heels, to YOUR own degree
Use hands to support weight and maintain comfort and safety
Chest lifting tall
Eyes glancing down ...?

Prasara...

A lot of this stems from me remember how much fun it was to be a kid - and how physical it used to be just moving around - you wouldnt stand up, walk over and lean over to change something on the tv - you would crawl on all fours, half roll over, and tap the button with your foot - I often wonder if it is as much our failure to use our body as it is age that causes the body rigidity/issues we end up having..

Also, the background of marital arts intrigues me - as it fits in with my background..

Old video - but I think you can see, its a bit different to what many people would consider 'yoga'..
