Ever wonder why Key has had that cheesy grin plastered all over his face since the budget release?
Well it's probably because he is making a killing out of the general public buying cheese.

Here is a list of the financial interests of political party members. You'll see under Key is 2 dairy farms....

http://www.parliament.nz/NR/rdonlyres/A823A6F4-088C-4A8E-8577-16687DFA0F8B/82759/register2008_1.pdf

I thought that was interesting...Key is actually loving the icrease in cheese prices.

So we can't factor in the 6 out of ten years on average where farms make a loss?

I just find it ironic when he goes on about all of us stuggling along unable to afford a block of cheese...and he just sits back and gets richer...

same

perhaps he has a cow fetish, I know if I was loaded I would

Though I kind of expected to see a lot more assets for Mr Key

JP and BM Key Family Trust

If you can see through your red-tinted glasses and pr spin... you do also know that Key donates his entire parlimentary salary to charity every year?

So effectively, hes in there working for free.

and giving at least $100k a year to charity.

It aint like he has to be there to make a living..
[quote]
like a few in parliament, he is one could could be earning vastly bigger sums somewhere else

that is no reason to think any more or less of him compared to those in pariament whom don't have the good fortune to have had such a profitable career and thus make such gestures - be it heartfelt or not

NR - ahh trusts I sorta figured that but am also dim

This is probasbly why he doesn't particularly give a shit about coming up with any policies....

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

fact is, hes in there to do something positive for the country, to contribute. Not milk a place on a a party listing taking home $80K + as a backbencher Associate Minister of Weka Breeding Grounds.

If you knew much about political history in NZ, you will find that parliament was mostly made up of people who are independentley financially sorted already.

There are still a few that are on the proverbial teat, but most have their shit sorted, as you would hope.

Interesting that Cullen isnt signed up to Kiwisaver.

I should also note, before the red fury overtakes anyone, that I am still undecided as to where my vote will go this election.

hehehe

I'm sure he is an intelligent man, he has made a lot of money, he can't be dumb.

I hope you're not insinuating that those that are doing well are smarter than those that are in mediocre jobs....

I personally just don't like john Key....I think he is a slimy guy. I find myself struggling to believe anything he says....but that's just me. And besides the general popolatrion seems to think he is ok seeing as 51% of the people want him as PM.
[quote]
don't trust them polls - no reflection on Key's popularity for he is very popular, I just don't put much faith in these polls

From what I've read of key he has wanted to be PM since he was a kid -I don't doubt he wants to do good by NZ but I wouldn't be surprised if the job came first on his priority list - which might explain how quick he is to flip flop, wants people to love him but isn't overly focused (a good and bad thing IMO) on how he will achieve this good
[quote]
newsflash - they all lie. Helen has been caught out loads of times.

anyhow, I dont think I would call him slimey, hes self assured, and maybe a little smug, but nowhere near as smug as Cullen.

Like everyone else, I'm waiting to see what policies National comes out with before I decide where my vote goes (i'll be voting from offshore too!)

just because they make a loss on paper does not mean they didnt lease/buy a new holden, pay for their kids boarding school and get a couple new farm bikes

wtf...

Any of you thought about how hard farmers work? How much their assets are worth? The majority of these farms are multimillion dollar buisnesses that have to live with a) the weather b) commodity prices for their goods.

Oh thats right profit is evil and ownership is theft.
[quote]
its hard work and they get paid well

(i certainly never said anything about it not being hard work)

however of late it seems that dairy prices have been increasing for no locally apparent reason
we are being affected by the international markets, and many are unhappy
[quote]
NZ has been an exporter of commodities for 150 years? We have been affected by non local situations for all of that time too.

Forestry
Oil
Meat
Wool
Labour prices (moreso recently).

In addition we have benefited hugely from cheap technology and machinery from asia.

World wide the price of food has gone up directly and indirectly through oil, transport costs and biofuel land conversion.

Its good that some sector of NZ is doing well internationally and offsetting people buying cheap imported shit from the warehouse.

I disagree, due to the small numbers China are sending us in terms of technology, we are not getting things cheap. North American get technology cheap....we are too small for them to do such low prices.
[quote]
Erm... what reality do you live in?

Serious question.
[quote]
Let's just get this "price of milk through the roof" media bullshit out of the way:

Avg 2L price of milk:
2008: $3.22
2007: $2.62
2006: $3.15
2005: $3.12
2004: $2.96
Hat-tip to Keith Ng...

So this year is a 7% rise over the average of the last 4. SIT DOWN HERALD.

Explain to me then why you think the technology we get from China is so much cheaper than North America?

'Not as cheap as elsewhere' as does not equal 'we have not benefited from'.

We HAVE benefited HUGELY from cheap asian electronics. I have no idea why you would attempt to argue otherwise.
