If Banks goes, ACT is dead in the water unless he/another ACT candidate stands and wins in the subsequent by-election.

Hopefully this tawdry affair leads to better laws around donations, something like "no anonymous donations, ever, at all" would be good.

I think making it smaller amounts of say $500 max can be made anonymous but then again there's nothing stopping someone like Dotcom making payments of then $500 per day for 365 days a year =$182,500 donation over a year....

Why is no one considering that, just maybe, Banks is suffering from some sort of geriatric memory loss? I've noticed him walking through the parliament corridors in what could be described as a slight daze since being back. That grin barely hiding his confusion as to what's going on around him. Now he can't recall ever talking to Dotcom, let alone taking a helicopter ride to Dotcom's mansion? Get the poor man a bed at the nearest retirement home.

At best he'll lose his ministry and cabinet position over this. He'll still retain his electorate imo. At least until some formal inquiry has been completed which will take an age.

The link that someone put on public address to John Banks on Radio live deliberately misconstruing the term "relationship" so he can get off the phone is ridiculous.

Worth noting that if he's found guilty then failing a Key saving him with a law chnage under urgency he's out, any MP found guilty of an offence that can carry a prison sentence of over 2 years is thrown out of parliament (regardless of the actual sentence handed down).

I would very much doubt he's going to resign on his own, except maybe from his ministerial post and even that's a stretch, and probably subject to whatever agreement National and ACT have in place.
