....that i can't go back home to live. Was just looking at the Timmy Schumacher pics from Sandwiches put up by dannii, and looking at them, I don't really know anyone there at all! Whats worse is that the party looks a little sad! Maybe it's because i've been away for so long that I've forgotton what the party scene in Welli was like, or maybe it's cos I've seen a lot better now. I dunno....

Does anyone else feel this way about from where you're from?

You took the words right outta my mouth...

It was weird when i was back, maybe its cos i'd lived in Welli for so long but since then have seen so much new, but when i was back Welli just seemed toooo quiet and I spent quite a bit of time with mates in Auckland (where I've never lived) and it occured to me that if I moved back (and there is no guarantee that I will) I might have to shift to Auckland just for that bigger feel...

I don't think I'd ever live in Auckland, unless the right circumstances arose, but probably Melbourne, although i've never been there. It sounds good.

Yeah - I'd prefer melbourne to auckland, but if i really wanted to go back and live in NZ i'd do all i could to try and make Auckland work for me. It just felt like there was more going on on lots of fronts during my recent 7 weeks back.

I'm still missing welly... but i haven't exactly been here a long time Smile

I dunno tho... bigger isn't necessarily better... if you went back to welly now, you wouldn't know many people, but after a year, it'd be just like old times... (with new people)...

i think the best thing about a place like welly (and NZ really) is that it's just more "real"... people aren't just looking to take advantage of you in some way to make a quick buck..

When I get back home, I dont want to be part of "the scene".

Now, I'm not bagging welli, but when I look back, apart from the "real" people that I hung out with, the scene that I saw was full of bitching, backstabbing and negativity. I dont to be part of that anymore.

I'm happy to retire to the country, have a bit of land, animals, and go into town (or another city) every now and then for something special.

And its only really from living over here that I realised how caught up in "the scene" I was.

I was in a rut and had to get out, and I will never get back into that rut again.

But dont get me wrong, I've had some of the best nights out back home with some amazing people.

Maybe I'm getting too old and cynical *shrugs*

as much as i love welly and for all the good times i had, i found there was indeed alot of "who's doing who and who has'nt paid" Razz but i suppose you get that in any smaller city or town, where it seems everyone knows someone you know. I did enjoy myself there though and it was cool walking into a club, shop, cafe etc (or down courtney place for that matter! rerember all those virtigo outside street partys?!) and meeting up or bumping into a group of people i knew. Still got lots of good friends and family there, so i'll be going back oneday in the distant future Smile

Interesting thread to read for someone who's just started their OE. Neutral

For me, the small town thing cannot be knocked, but I agree with the comments about "the scene" to some extent. The bitching and backstabbing cannot be blamed on Wellington being a small town or the people there, but only on human nature.

Next time you're travelling (for example), you'll see that people spending a lot of time together will just rub each other up.

oh yeah, and the crowd at timmy schumacker would have been lighter than normal because Firmnation was on down at Phoenix.

I wouldn't mind living in nz. I just enjoy sydney a whole lot more. there are similarities in the scene, but a whole lotta differences too.

No rush to get back there apart from holidays. Bring on July 17th and chemistry! Very Happy
