isnt it strange how george bush snr funded osama in the 80s against russia and also how he funded saddam hussein against iran. now his son has to deal with the mess?
[quote]
if you want to call what George W.'s doing 'dealing with the mess'.

America brought it on themselves in a way, they were planning to go into Afganistan to seek and destroy Osama before the attacks on america even happened

Biker: In future, please back up your 'arguments' with some 'evidence', rather than trolling out irrational conspiracy theories. Cheers.

Actually voice, Bikers theory makes sense. If I was the Americans and I'd funded an extremist and he'd done the job he was supposed to do - I'd get rid of him too. Just in case he goes and does something stupid and emabarasses the administration.

Obviously, they're a bit slow on the uptake.

I don't think the American govt is any less evil than any other regime slug. I think our government would do very similar things, given the resources and reach of the states.

Bah, I'm sick of arguing this same line, and countering all the people on here who are intent on thinking the worst of the US, without regard to any benefits the US has brought to this world. Been there, done that weeks ago (on here), and I'm sick of it.

The US is the spawn of all evil, blah, blah, blah. George W Bush is the devil, blah blah. Too clichéd these days, if you ask me.

Ok, fair point VoiceinsideYou.. However, what Biker says is true. The Americans have had a price on Osama's head for years. Further to that, they have had several failed attempts to capture (or kill) him previously in Afganistan.

BUT these were mainly in response to the failed attempt to bomb the WTC in 1993 and the successful bombings of the American Embassacys in Africa.

Yeah, okay, I admit that I interpreted Biker's comments incorrectly, and jumped to conclusions. My apologies for that - I like to think that's out of character for me.

Statement retracted - sorry. It still remains that I think the US is justified in going to get him, however.

voice - i may have agreed with you if i'd seen any evidence supporting the US stance. I haven't seen any at all so I don't support thier actions, in fact the reading I've done paints a vivid conspiracy picture......

Now if I was really cynical, I might say that the campaign to kill Osama is just a side show. Sure, the troops think that they're over there to capture Osama and they are, but at a command level, its an excuse to advance US interests in the region. Those same troops will probably find themselves marching on Baghdad in a couple of weeks.

And really, the US would be crazy not to advance their interests. The world has given the US carte blanche to do whatever it likes in the middle east and they would be wise to take the opportunity while the world is looking the other way.

What? George wants to go after Saddam now? What a surprise!

I do think that the US as a country has innovated many important world discoveries but I don't believe for a second that the elements in control of US national security (military, military intelligence) give a fuck about the rest of the world except in terms of how it can be used as 'assets'.

*shrug* I'm not even gonna go there.
