Can't seem to acces microsoft.com on any PC in the house, can access with a mac though. Would I be right in assuming this means the update service is down?

Has anyone noticed anything on any forums or news? I did a google search last night but couldn't locate any news about it being offline...

Highly annoying as I just reformatted my laptop and can't download device detective to reinstall all my drivers because the XP disc I loaded it with doesn't have the most up to date version of .net framework.

Dunno WTF was happening with it, it was a clean and fresh install, and even on my work network, IE was just totally failing. Firefox worked fine.

We blew it away and Windows 7'd it instead Smile

And now several days later I say: "What worries?" Win7 is running like a dream on my lappy and while I clung to XP for ages because I didn't want to switch to Vista, I'm now of the opinion that XP is now old and busted - to coin one of my favourite Kris_Bism's.

Yeah Bob I know the hosts file and checked it when I was troubleshooting but I realised early on it wasn't a DNS issue. It was something weirder... Cheers tho. Smile

strange - i know you said it wasnt a dns issue but i wonder if adding a host file entry would have worked.

Tried it on a completely different network with a Proxy server so definitely not that.

Also doesn't explain why a completely different PC on my network had the same issue.
