Anyone know good plans for high-ish intenet users.
Living with 6 people who surf the net 1-2 hours per day each and we download around 10-15 hours of music/videos per week.

So many options out there now.

We've got the 60GB plan with Vodafone. The Mrs and her kid killed it all in aout 2 weeks .... I don't have anything erlse useful to add ...

60gb isnt much really. Think we use around 100-150gb per month approx

Who knows how good the customer support is though and/or how well funded they are? and whether their tech is good enough to handle volume/outrages...

Time will tell.

my 60 gb magically turned into 120.

Though with VF, you can "double your data" for $30.60, so you'd have 120gb for $95.60.

I was with VF before I moved into my current place and would have stayed with them if there wasn't an account already. I never bothered with speed tests. I had no issues gaming or downloading though. Service was stable. Only complaint was that it took so long to get set up, but that was an exchange issue.

My girlfriend thought I was fully lying when I told her we were previously paying $34.95 per month with Woosh and getting by on 10GB per month with 3 people.

No it seems to be kind of true.

Our flat has 60gb, 3 people. I've been monitoring my usage and I personally only use about 10gb. But what I'm not doing that uses up all the bandwidth is downloading TV shows and movies.

Noticed something interesting the last couple of days. We had a Vodafone router and the wifi connection kept dropping like crazy and driving us nuts. The flatmate who owns the account was given an old router from his work and it's been more stable but seems slower. I dunno if it's the hardware or because I know the Vodafone would have connected through 802.11n while this other one is probably only 802.11g. Even though that's still faster way than the net, I wonder if it somehow causes a noticeable lag?

The product Telecom delivers over your DSL line has always been incredibly high quality, that's never been in doubt.

What has been in doubt and has improved over the last few years is the pricing and the quality of the customer service. That's what's changed.

Can anyone give me an average bandwidth usage for gaming and/or watching stuff on sites like TV3 on Demand?

How long is a piece of string?

Yeah, but you could probably guess-timate what usage would be if you were gaming or watching TV no? Myself, I have no clue about stuff like this. Doesn't have anything to do with travel, Japan, Crossfit or dogs falling off cars you see
[quote]
depends totally on the game and the nature of its online component and the types of show you're streaming - ie 30 mins news a day or 6 hours of emmerdale

refer piece of string

Data plans are a bit like income the more you earn the more you spend....

unlimited cap here and each day I download another corner of the internet - as I'm a hoarder

When I lived alone, I would use 600-700 for gaming. Downloading would increase that further. If you streamed something from TV on demand, keeping in mind the shit quality, I'd add another 400-500 onto that.

[quote]
Oh yeah I don't play games either. I basically browse and occasionally watch short hosted videos (youtube, vimeo etc). Oh and download software and it's updates on 2 different devices. Fucked if I know where 10gb goes with just that though.

I wonder how much the average user eats up in pron

I know I do about 250 gig a month

thanks to my seeing & typing eye dog I can still post here

Jesus, what sort of work do you do? Or do you just watch movies all day?
[quote]
being visually disabled I am what Colin Craig would call a drain on society

I can't actually see the movies, but I do enjoy the noises, keeps me and the dog alert

That kind of data isn't hard to do at all if you have any kind of remotely sizable TV and movie habit and you download nothing but HD content.

The only game i've ever played online (wow) does maybe 150-200mb a day.

So vodadone's the way to go?
[quote]
No.

Vodafone is all good for me. Good speeds (for NZ - Speed Test gives me an A- ) where I am and we use a sizable amount of data every month.
[quote]
Talked with a friend who said a simple way to restrict teenagers thrashing the bandwidth is net goes off when adults go to bed on weeknights
[quote]
Another simple way is to use dial-up
