A senior Indian police officer says terrorist gunmen, who have killed 80 people in a series of attacks in Mumbai today, are now holding hostages in two luxury hotels.
The BCC reports further hostages are being held at a hospital in the south of Mumbai.
Hospitals around Mumbai are now reporting blood shortages with The Times of India news website reporting 900 injured in the co-ordinated attacks.
Hostages are being held at the Oberoi Hotel, which has been set on fire, and at the Taj Mahal Hotel Palace hotel, where a BBC reporter says at least 40 hostages are being held.
The Times of India reports many of the hostages are British nationals.
The BBC says groups of armed men launched terrorist attacks at up to 16 popular tourist locations around Mumbai.
It says two terrorists have been killed with the Indian army poised to enter the Oberoi Hotel.
The hostage takers are reportedly armed with grenades, machine guns and other weapons.
