If I get an Ancestry Visa to UK when will it expire?

Basicly im planning on going to London in April 09 so can I apply for my ancestry visa this year or do I have to wait till 3 months before like the WHV?

You can forward date it by up to 3 months, I think.

ie don't get it now. wait 3 months before you're going to leave.
