After months of my flatmates telling me to go to Church on Sunday, I finally dragged my ass down there to see what the fuss was all about.

I tell you what, I had the best day!

Sawdust floor, place packed with hundreds of people from all over the globe, so much alcohol consumed, strippers, team drinking races (which the kiwi's won) with a bit of comedy thrown in. It was fucking crazy!

Not the sort of place I thought I'd like, but you gotta give everything a go eh?

Think I'll be going most sundays to repent my sins Pink Winky

ive been here for about 3 weeks now and I think im going to go this sunday for a laugh, the last few weeks ive had to much of a hang over to even get out of the house.

Yeah, I've heard good things (and bad!) about the church. definitely on the "to do" list for any kiwi headed to the uk Smile

Yep! I'm keen as to get along and join the mongrels at The Church.

Heard so much about this place.

You kind of have to go at least once. I went once a few years back, I don't actually remember leaving it, just kind of reawaking at Teh Backpackers bar in Kings Cross.

I then kind of reawoke at The Blob SHop in Goldhawk road, about 5 hours later, I have no recollection of anything inbetween, including the tube ride to Hammersmith, or changing my clothes in my room. Fuck knows what happened inbetween, I have norecollection of the photos we took either.

Pony? Are you online?

Heheh.. I got on the stage. The Church was just a once-off for me.
[quote]
CyberPrincess: So did you do "the usual" when you got up on stage??? Laughing

Yeah - I've been to the Church too, but think it was also a one-off for me also. Think the novelty of that place would wear off pretty darn quickly if you went more than once every two years

so whats it like?

the fats?

the grumpy mole?
[quote]
yeah, I wanna know too.

wanna take me there sometime spike?
[quote]
yeah we'll go sometime dude
[quote]
For me, it was kinda like the redback, but with more different nationalities (not everyone is from nz or aussie).

Throw in some comedy, interaction with the dude on stage, strippers (male and female), and at the end lots of girls go onstage, dance and take their tops off.

And of course, copious amounts of alcohol consumed Pink Winky

It's open for 4 hours and the main plan is to drink as much as you can within that time. If you leave The Church sober, you have failed!

Like I said, I thought I'd hate the place, but I went with my australian housemates and had such a wikkid day. The best way to end a hard weekend!

Very Happy

Oh yeh, it gets fucking packed, and its usually good to get there around 10.00am and queue up, it opens at 12.00pm.

Sounds like ages, but just take some piss to drink while you are in line, talk shit to the people around you, all good.

Nah I didn't take my top off, I sprayed my beer all over the pervs at the front of the stage and got chucked off by the bouncer, heh.

Afterwards it was like "God, I'm never going there again" so yeah I think once every 2 or 3 years is enough for me!

Like neither really.. imagine a huge old warehouse (incidentally where Bagleys is held the night before) with sawdust on the floor and the place is packed with antipodeans standing round drinking beer, holding plastic bags with ice cubes at the bottom and a band playing in the main room.

After an hour or two of this the guys start grabbing girls' asses who walk past, strippers come on the stage and everyone generally gets more rowdy. At the end some drunk girls get on the stage and take their tops off and all the guys yahoo, leer and shout. When it finishes masses of drunk people spill out onto the streets of Kings Cross and many go on to backpacker bars where they proceed to get even more drunk.

It's totally un-classy, heaps of bogan types and reminds you of a West Auckland party back home. An experience, but not something you'd really aspire to doing lots.

Sorry, last post! Just checked the site (www.thechurch.co.uk) and it's moved from Kings Cross, now in Kentish Town.
