I need some computer aid/help asap:

Anyway, night before last I shut down my computer before leaving the house. When I came back and started up my computer, said something about my login failig and giving me a temp profile.. So I pretty much hae nothing atm.. which isn't the problem.. I found the files I wanted and moved them t he desktop, but silly me. I forgot to move them back, so when I restarted,they got deleted. I neeeeeeeeeeed my music an pictures, don't care bout anything else. I downloaded a trial version of Uneraser, and looked for an hour, and my music folders are there, still haven't found all of thm but they are there.

So what I need is a free file recovery tool, cos trial versions are hopeless.. they just let yo look at the shit.

So yea. a serious post by me? who would have thought.

So just clearing a few things up here, when you restarted after moving the files you wanted to your desktop did you login to your original profile? and then temp one got deleted?

pretty sure it keeps creating new temp profiles each time?

Had this happen on 3 laptops in the space of a fortnight.

I didn't fuck around with it though, just backed up the original profile and reimaged the machines.

Well I didn't back up anything Hence why I need a disk/file recovery program, possibly a free one. Cos it's all there, I just need something to recover it with. I made a new user and that one seems to be fine. But I just wanna get the deleted stuff back that's all.

And umm everytime I log in to my original user account, I get a temp profile, when I log off the temp profile it gets deleted and I get another one. Hence why my music got deleted cos I forgot to put it back into the folder that doesn't get deleted.. And yeah, I was making cds so I needed to have it on my desktop.

I would say you're probably out of luck.

Hopefully you've learnt your lesson about backing up stuff.

also, I find Ontrack is the best recovery program (if you really want to go the recover route),

but I wouldn't be holding out much hope if I was you...

stop using the computer (or at least that disk) till youve recovered as you might write over the data. I use easy recover pro - see if you can get someone to download from a torrent for you or use another computer.

is it not possible the data is still there just in the original profile which you're not able to view because you not logging on with it. not enough info to know this. can you explore to c:\Documents and Settings and look for the old profile?

He moved the data out of the old profile is his problem. You can always view other profiles so long as you didn't set it to Private.

Those files aren't there.. but Kris is right when I moved the files.. they got deleted when I restarted, I tried a trial version of Uneraser and looked for the files for a few hours and found them. The only problem is the trial doesn't let me recover them and I don't wanna pay someone to do it when I know I can do it ya know..

Often a trial version offers the upgrade to a full version when you pay money to the owner.

This will unlock the features you need.
