to help me with a computer problem (tee hee)

my flatmates computer wont let me download any online chat messenger services...
im assuming that he has it locked against them, and i can't find where it is.
Its Windows XP (professional?) help me please

I haven't used XP sorry. Does have have roles like 2000? perhaps you need to be logged in as the Administrator??

i probably do need to be logged in as admin,
it's very different to what im used to - coz i normally know my way around properties and general options etc..

i think it is mainly the java applications - tell mee, what is ActiveX (or something) is it related to that, and if i enable it will it help?

yeap..im runnin winxp pro
u cant do shit really if u dont have admin previlages(sp?!)
try that first..then go to your internet settings..and play around with advanced tab..lots of options there.
active-x needs to b enabled to run chat scripts i think. take a look at the "security" settings under the "advanced" tab in internet options.

with xp, you need permissions to install programs... you won't find any options anywhere because they only appear to you if you are an administrator... you can't set your own security options - that defeats the purpose of security... you'll have to ask your flatmate to either give you permission, or do it for you...
