or is the prog scene pretty much dead in new zealand... is there any decent prog night really worth going to in auckland....


I think prog is really the best genre out there but it doesn't seem to have big following in NZ... I think this is really sad...

I was talking to jon davis... he said if he put diggers on in a club everyone one would be like "ooo digweed gotta got"... but as soon as they got in the would go "wtf is this and walk straight out"... i tend to agree with him...

The only real prog fix I get is at home and when the international come over...

we've been pretty lucky so far this year in auckland with leads, fontaine, howells, lawler richards etc and we had a good lot last year too..

but its not enough...

i'm sad now....

Once people realise that Prog can pump and is not just "slowed down trancey house" the flood gates will open. ie Seb Fontaine's totally storming set at TT...or the stuff I play

Mix has good nights, and I hear that there was a
wicked Prog radio show on Saturday night just
gone.....

Its about education....people in AKL need to be
educated, and it aint an overnight thing....
it will take time, but with the effort of DJ's and
promoters, and club owners, it will get there....
One problem I have witnessed, is DJ's or
promoters that call their stuff prog, when it aint.

Come down to ch-ch and see how prog should be done. Its definately not dead here

educate your crowd, shit quite seroiously lots of people up there including some of the larger names in AK are playing progressive tracks and yes the whole GU series is progressive apart from prototype and tony de vit cd's. let your crowd know it put it on the flier, shit do a rip off and call it "Local Underground" AK is probably the only place you could actually pull that off
seriously...start a goog (FUN) night and let people know whats happening, what the sound is etc... christ bring us guys up and we'll show ya how to do it.

yes mix has had some good nights... but is there any regular prog night on... a good one... renegade was a bit of a flop... and I no offence but OB1's style is not really what i'm after...

you should "force" people like ROB W, JOSH WEBB, JAMIE STUART< ASTRAL ETC... into doing a club night... just make'em p.s. sorry guys hehe

What we really need is some good old fashioned illegal warehouse parties - $5 on the door. DJ's playin for nicks - or Tequila apparantly - and happy punters with big smiles and no hassles.

Yeah, like hooj is saying... It's been delayed a little bit from the original plans, but there's a night starting up in April called "Detour" which will become a regular Friday night at Mix nightclub... I do have it on very good authority that once it gets going properly there's gonna be no more farting about with bongoey-trance-pseudo-prog-gap-filler-doof-beats, cos it's gonna be a real *progressive* night, with the best prog DJ's in Auckland and from around the country creating a new journey each week (and we'll most definitely get u fellas up at some stage Pyre, Callum, Danny & Co) - but it's gonna take the support of everyone to make it work!! So lets just hope that once it gets going people will actually show up for it! If the Renaissance room at 2-Tribes was any gauge of how prog is going in Auckland (and NZ in general) I would say there is absolutely no f**king way that the prog scene is dead here - it's still gathering momentum!! (For those that missed it... well it was the best room by a long shot if you ask me... Steve and Danny had a blast and the crowd were totally rockin, and as for MC Warner... well I never! ;P )
Anyway, hold tight cos things are happening - just keep the faith!!!

By the way... I nominate Detour (& Mix) to also become the new home-base for the biggie prog forum...

I also forgot to mention that Mix will soon be streaming live to Red FM, so sooner or later anyone can tune in from anywhere too (via internet for those outside of Ak)!!
