I can’t say it completely swept me off my feet. Some tracks are very catchy – however, with those ones I’m sure that if I went through my collection with a fine tooth comb I’d find other tracks that I already own that have the very same sound / melody as those “catchy” tracks.

But I bought it for the weird tracks, the ones that I didn’t like straight away – those are usually the ones that I end up loving the most in a few weeks’ time. There’s no denying the originality and ubiquity of the label and its sounds – although the few singles that they’ve put out recently have been quite hit and miss. I’m taking a gamble (but I’m sure it’s a pretty safe bet that my money was well spent).

Kompakt 10 – whether you’re chillaxing with a book, or going for a road trip. A sound for all tastes as long as you’re willing to delve into the weird and wonderful side of electronica.

I will say tho:

Thomas & Mayer – Total 9 sounds too much like Killahurtz – 21st Century Lover

Total 9 sounds like an instrumental, stripped down and chilled remix of Killahurtz. But that’s just the trainspotter in me talking. Smile

I haven't checked it out properly yet, but there's always some goodies to be found, I agree. Koze's track sounding amazing as always.

^^ Pretty great M Mayer mix of earlier kompakt stuff and interview over on pitchfork at the moment.

Pitchfork: What mistakes have been made?

MM: This immense output. No record shop in the world is able to handle 1,000 techno and house releases a week. The output is just way too high; everybody fucked up. Nobody can handle this mass of releases and labels are suffering from this, record shops are suffering from this, distributors are suffering from this.

If there were fewer labels and releases everyone would be happier, but that's difficult to accomplish. I am hoping for a loud voice of reason talking to everybody: producers, labels, distributors, and shops. Like hey, "Think it over, think twice before you release a record." Maybe things can get better again. The main problem isn't that people download or don't buy records anymore, the main problem is that there's just too many releases.

Love it personally. Prefer Disc One to Disc Two so far but haven't given part deux it's fair due as yet. I had it on repeat in the car while travelling and thoroughly enjoyed it.
