How many of you lot actually buy games?

Seriously. How many people here actually go to a store (physical or online) and buy games that they play? It's just that through people I know over a number or years, it's really quite shocking how many people just copy shit off each other.

I havent brought a game in years. But you're right. I know a shit lot of people who just burn CDs

I buy most Blizzard games... otherwise, I'll only buy the real cheap/discount/old stuff... $120 is a lot to pay if you only play it a couple of times....

Well, it's difficult to say.
I think to be honest I'm rather disinclined to pay for software unless it's really nessecary. Maybe If I was a game developer or someone invloved in the software industry I might think differently. It's just hard to feel any empathy for those who lose out from Piracy otherwise.

I will however, buy games that I am absolutely and totally sure I will love and get alot of use out of. e.g Quake 4, Half life 2, BF: V, Doom 3

i buy them once a blue moon, only really if its something that i wanna play online and i need a serial number for it.

i buy software if I need to have a registration key, especially for online play.I also buy it if I use it more than a couple of times. I even bought the copy of XP I use.
Otherwise I just copy stuff, usually I don't play the games more than once or twice. I'm a bit fussy about how I waste the little wastable time I have

I don't play games on the PC anymore either. After staring at a PC all day and concentrating I don't really feel like doing it in the evening ...and my PC isn't really capable of playing much any more (I'll just continue using it to surf the net).

I tend to play the XBox game though ...have never paid for one though. Gotta love it when you flatmate keeps on getting given them

Actually I probably could. Maybe I will get onto that ...although I tend to be quite particular about what I like. I've only played two games to any extent on the Xbox so far.

I buy games for my PS2 and a couple for my mac. I like having the manual when i play a game I guess, it adds to the experience. When ive completed a game i usually trade it in. The exception being games like Vice City that i could never see myself selling.

I check games out, and if I like it and think I'll actually play it through then I'll buy it. Just sick of buying titles then finding they're shithouse. I think when I bought AoE3 and it sucked, and I felt like a muppet, I decided I was gunna check things out before I coughed up.


I think though, that piracy has had an almost positive effect on games.. As now companies really can't afford to press out shithouse games anymore as people don't buy them.

just the other day i bought tony hawks & return to castle wolfenstein for my xbox. Also bought Need for speed underground(that game rocks) and Call of Duty for my PC

but i must admit i have like 50 copied games or more

computer games are being pirated too easily, I've bought a few years back, since then, I have friends that have the likes of LOTR games coming out when they're not even released in NZ, I really prefer playing games on video games consoles or at the Arcades.

umm... not really the same thing is it? one is buying a competitors product, the other is getting something for free when people have put a lot of time an effort into making it...

don't get me wrong, I'm not completely against piracy, especially when software is overpriced. But if you have a really good game, and you play it for hours, surely you can see that if you don't buy it, then those sort of games won't be produced any more. You're hurting an industry that you get a lot out of.

I try to think along the lines of "if I *had* to pay for this, would I?" ... as in, if I wasn't able to pirate this game, would it still be worth the $120 or whatever. A lot of the time, it is. Sometimes it's not, so I don't bother. It's responsible piracy

fair enough..! i actually agree with you to be honest, id like to pay for games, but its pretty hard to break out the wallet when you allready have the game on your hdd.!(40£+ is a lot of money.. ) plus i tend to get alot of stuff before its released into the shops here, so ive allready played it qite a bit before i could actually get it from the shop..!!

it really depends on what the game is to me, i havent downloaded the beta of hl2 yet because i want to buy the game and have an original copy and i know if i download it i wont buy it
its just hard to resist when ya got dsl and you see it there available for download

thats how i feel as well, the only problem with the dwnld version is bugs, but i ususlly can get the pathcs from the same place i get the game from..
sucks when groups release bugged versions just to get it out first..!!

yeah ... I get sick of shit house games too .. so try before buy ... the good thing is .. I buy more games than ever before
