Frankie Knuckles 1977

A few months ago, I stopped in Chicago on my way from Salt Lake City to Miami, where I was moving to.  I'd started DJing, House Dancing, and producing just under two years before that, and wanted to soak up a little bit of House Music history.  So I linked up with Julius the Mad Thinker, who took me to a spot where DJ Lego was playing.  I also wanted to check out The Warehouse in person, so Julius drove us out to the first two locations for the legendary club, where Frankie Knuckles, one of House Music's pioneers and often credited as the DJ who sparked the industry, held his famous DJ residency from 1977-1982.  Before I left Chicago the next morning, I returned to 206 South Jefferson Street to dance outside the location of the original Warehouse.  The excitement and feeling of House Dancing in that spot, along with a helpful voiceover describing this new urban dance style, is included in the video below.  I hope you enjoy and share it.

Keep dancing, because dancing will set us free.

I hope you weren't driving. That is some significant detour.

Haha, hey Rob, yea I did! Crazy drive, and it only got worse after Chicago with car troubles. The Chicago detour was def one of the highlights--but I'm not making that drive ever again.
