Yo. What up with the poor breakz, 2step 'n' garage forum. Sad

Aight, I'm trying to drum up support for Hookie, 23rd Feb at StudioNine in Wellington. Anyone going - thinking of going, etc? I've been waiting for some main event 2Step for a while now, and I'm looking forward to this one massively. Everyone - be there!

Anyway, what do you guys (who read this forum) think about the role 2Step, garage etc is going to play in the dance scene long term? Most of the time the 2Step is relegated to the chill out room or the bar (at Stud9, for instance), as a more relaxing change from DnB usually on the main dancefloor. Do you think this reflective of 2Step being quite unknown in the scene at the moment, or perhaps will it always be seen as chill-out style music only?

I'm not too sure. I guess House music is often chill-out stuff, but there are also massive house parties where it is the main event.

I'm hoping the 2Step will pick up, but not sure if it'll happen. Still, big ups to the guys playing it in Wgtn - Marek, Clinton Smiley and MC Mana for his styles on the mic. I enjoy it, at least. Very Happy

Not a fan of 2-step but breakz and progressive styled breakz (hybrid etc) are all good.. Its all about dem breakbeatz seen.

Werd Timid!!

The Breakbeats is where it is at!! Just wish DnB producers would injected some more breaks and variation into the majority of their tunes ...looping the same break for 6 minutes gets ol' real fast.

Yeah, well even for breakz. Often the bass Frontiers gigs in Wgtn are labelled as DnB/breakz, but I hear very little I would class as breakz, except for the odd tune pitched right down on the deck. Then again, I am a breakz newbie, and also, 2Step seems to be getting more of a showing than the rest of breakz.

Maybe because it's closer to house? I'm not sure, 2Step is still very small it seems.

Who runs the Hookie gigs anyway? Are they quite big in Auckland? It'll be my first one down here in Wellington (assuming I go after I recover from Ed Rush 'n' Optical on the Thursday!), so I'm not sure if they've been here before or whether they're very popular. I guess I'll find out! Razz

Well, Hookie last night in Wgtn was interesting. Very cool tunes, some wicked mixing by Howson and Felicity - a pity about the crowd. Really small, and mainly looked like drinkers stumbling in off the street, which was a shame.

I had a good time, although a bit fucked up after Ed Rush and Rymetyme the night before. Maybe that was part of the reason for the small crowd? Who knows. Sad
