If your into real house music, then this friday n'somnia is the place for you,dj/producer Hipp-e from San Francisco gets behind the decks.Auckland friday november 2nd, Wellington thursday 1st november.i keep reading about people complaining that there is not enough real house djs and its all cheesy crap, well then put your money where your mouth is and get down to here some real talent from the U.S underground. Most house lovers will tell you that for the last 2 years the san francisco sound has been big here in NZ, labels like siesta, tango, doubledown, crayhound, etc have been huge sellers in the record stores.yet not a mention that Hipp-e is playing here on these posts ! i tell you what though with the exception of lightspeed, most promoters will continue to bring the big cheesy international djs through, because thats where the money is, plain and simple. So if you want quality music from quality underground internationals, with local support then get in there and check'em out. $35.00 is reasonable. limited tickets to 400, so hurry.

Already got twin tickets to fun. yayyay.

dood, cheesy???

Friday soundz like a good nite there at insomnia... what makes lightspeed an exception tho?? I'd say they are near the top of the list o try-hard cheese!!! well, sumtimes anyway, other times they're on form... but its fair to say that there are alot of small promoters out there doing far better shit than most of the big-ones.... by far...

hippe & halo played down here earlier in the
year -at destination - rocked the place....

Come on nickej69. You know its pure promoter rhetoric. This is what I read from Clarkees post:

"Hipp-e. Nsomnia. Tickets 35. Good times had by all. Did I leave the iron on this morning?"
[quote]
hey nickej69, your not reading this properly, i said with lightspeed being the exception to the rule of not, not, not always bringing cheesy djs here, in fact they have brought some excellant talent here, understand, most other promoters do because that is where the money is, comprendi. Promoters rhetoric, call it what you like trans, the fact is we do not bring underground djs here to make money, more like to lose money, hopefully not to much, its for the music! and the people can hear something different, new, i do not want to knock anyone or anything, simply to arouse some interest in something worthwhile, thats not expensive.

ooh i forgot Hipp-e is in wellington thursday studionine november 1st, $20, at least there are enthusiastic people down there.

Good stuff Clarkee, will be there

Personally I don't think 'cheesey' can be pinned down that easily. Lottie and Dan Kahuna, for example, were not cheese, but were part of a UK Club tour, which COULD be considered cheesey.

But Hey!

hippe will go off big time. im not exagerating when i say that the kinda stuff he plays is explosive, big bassline, twisted phunk!!! wouldnt surprise me if the roof lifted off the building when hurricane hippe arrives. there with bells on!

A big thankyou to those musically minded punters who attended Hipp-e,I would have liked to see more there, but there you go, fickle or what.Hipp-e enjoyed himself playing a 5hr set in wellington and 3.5 hour set in auckland with no sleep in between.
A bit suss bout the venue though, do people like or dislike n'somnia? can't tell myself, i like all clubs, wacked us with a huge room hire fee though, won't be doing there anymore, more greedy club
owners who don't give a fuck about the music just the money. bring back warehouse parties. peace.

i would imagine that if people havnt heard alot of a particular dj then its hard to market the event when the tickets are $35..it doesnt take a genius to see the market is flooded these days..with events
nice n urlich $40 which i think is a bit expensive when compared to other gigs DhF Velvet etc but then i suppose they have a following..of fans..which they choose to exploit
i like nsomnia as a venue
[quote]
morpheous i agree about the market being flooded with gigs for africa, but good international house dj /producers are not that regular, and $35 is reasonable don't you think,i mean compare that to homegrown events for the same price, you can see these djs for $5--10 weekly around auckland. We would like to brand these small international events as good talent at a cheap price and get a good following of punters who are into the music not the click. Its a pity our dollar is so low, that causes a big problem. The other problem is that you don't get much choice about the dates, its take it or leave it, and we wanted to offer aucklanders something good. How wrong we were?

You would have had more, but my mate got turned away for having shoes that were too casual...not the first time we've had problems getting in to Insomnia.

I would like to apologise to the owner of n'somnia for any inference that he is a greedy clubowner, i was totally out of line saying this in my earlier posts and retract those statements made. The problems in the dance scene, especially the lack of unity, causes one to get frustrated to the point where this happens, perhaps its because i am not in it for the money but the music and when things go awry with money, people react differently, we live in a society that puts money above all else, thats the way we have been conditioned to think and act, who can blame people for being like that, after all they have to make a living, its a treadmill that we cannot get off easily, for our future we need a sharing caring society with the ephasis on life rather than monetry gain. peace
[quote]
yeah $35 isnt too bad because of the international
status..but because of the competition and i.e abundance of gigs at the moment added with the lack of knowledge of the particular dj well this off sets the price...for instance if i wasnt going to so many others i would maybe have gone..but i think you also said something correct and that is the nz dollar is a joke

morpheus - velvet exploiting their fans? bit harsh isn't it - we ACTUALY improve our event every time out - bigger/ better sound, lighting, venue, giveaways, acts, everything basicly, especialy as its our birthday.
57 acts, EV sound, 6 rooms at the finest (and most expensive) venue in Auckland, ground breaking visuals at the B'day - $50 non-members - you do the sums!
So yes, we do ask our data-base to buy a ticket, we also ask them what they want at the gig, it is essentialy designed by the regular crowd. So in that I think the word `exploit' does not acuratly define how we work.

yeah, I like N'somnia too.

I personally think that Rob Warner and Sam Hill are more cheesey than Sample Gee put together. BO!
