HIP HOP ALBUMS!

Sup all! Just wanted to enlist some of the extensive Hip Hop knowledge that is present in this forum.

I'm looking to purchase some new Hip Hop CDs, and I was hoping y'all could recommend some good albums, either ol' or new....preferably 'intelligent' hip hop that has lyrics with meaning... but any style from any coast is welcome.

For starters it's definitely worth picking up the P-money and Decepticonz albums if you don't have them. Both of them are pretty damn good and you won't be dissapointed.

Other stuff I've been liking so far this year is coming from England, with wicked albums from

New Flesh - Understanding (great lyrical styles and fresh uk production, nice change from US stuff)

Herbaliser - Something Wicked This Way Comes (especially if you like your hiphop mixed with jazzy downbeat things)

TTC - 'Ceci N'est Pas Un Disque' (if you dont know french then the lyrics won't mean much, but I'm liking it alot its, its, um.. weird and interesting.)

Haven't heard much good US albums but I dont really buy so much US hiphop albums. Mobb Deep, Mystikal, Outkasts greatest hits are all worth checking.. and I think the soundtrack for Meth and Reds movie is out now which oughta be cool in a stoner kind of way.

Anyway, thats my picks, there ya go.

Ol' skoool , get Gravediggaz - 6 feet deep and Wu Tang Clan... Very amusing albums

Is there anything else you'd recommend along the lyrical styling of Jeru, Mobb Deep, Goodie Mob, Jurrasic 5, Black Eyed Peas, or De La Soul?

Yep, definitly invest in some good kiwi albums.

Decepticonz and P Money's albums are both brilliant, Che Fu also is worth buying but its more R&B polynesian styles than hip hop, P Money plays quite a bit on it though, all three albums are sweet.

Major Flavours I & II are off the hook, definately a big fan of sir-vere's... but I'm not really after compilations, more so sole artist LPs.. if ya get what I mean.

Then go for Lone Catalysts ft. Talib Kweli its nice chilled out beats and you can't go wrong with some dope hiphop choons from:

Hey you guys, just wanting to get into a bit more hip hop - kinda been inspired by Craze arriving next week, and been listening to a few mp3s of his and P-Money's. I'd quite like to grab an album of his, maybe P-Money's (start homegrown) and then a mix CD perhaps?

I saw Major Flavours yesterday, looks pretty cool - but then again, I wouldn't know. Does it contain a big variety of hip hop on it? I'm not sure about various subgenres/styles, but keen to get a sampling across the entire spectrum.

As for Craze, I picked up this discography off his site.. which is newest and best recommended by your experienced selves?

What's the United DJ's CD like? That's 2001 isn't it? (taken from http://www.homebass.ca/release/r5531.cfm)

Looks kinda appealing as it's also got his DnB megamix on it, and some of you know how I love my DnB with scratching... Will it be hard to find/expensive in NZ?

I've noted down the artists above, will check out some mp3s. Kinda limited in the $ for CDs department right now though.

Shaolin check out an album by Mos Def n Talib Kwali - Black Star . definatly one of my more fav. LP's of all time. Hopie has a copie on plate !

That Nexxsound cd is pretty much all dnb voice, recommend you check it .

As for his mix of 'Tried by 12', you can't beat squarepushers one..

one of personal favs as far as entire albums of the last coupla years has to be by an outfit called Ryu and their album "ga".
ryu is a collabaration between dj krush,dj hide and sak (all japanese geezers) it is one madass off the hook record,typical blunted krush beats but with a little twist of something extra,heaps of traditional japanese instruments,crazy japanese rapping,and even a dub tune!
i have never seen it in a nz record shop,but it is well worth tracking down.

Oh yeah, that reminds me of Dj Krush - Zen..... lovely album

Btw voice that nexxsound should be fairly easy to find, i picked it up second hand at real groovy

Yeah i've got Nexsound its reprazenting the dnb massive - Craze has got hiphop mixtapes out, you can download mixes off the net, they're pretty abstract but from what i've heard he's straight up loving the dnb for now, no turning back =)

Another one I recommend - Underground Airplay mixed by Dj Spinbad - hella dope and ATCQ - THE ANTHOLOGY =)

"ego trips book of rap lists" is also a killer album worth checkin,dope old school styles all the way,heaps of ultra mean classic tunes.

The Roots- Things Fall Apart, every song on the album is good
Jeru da Damaja(prob. spelt wrong)- meaningful hip hop at its finest, listen close to the lyrics
Beatnuts- they like the ladies
MC Solar- French hip hop, cant understand a word but its got good beats
Rodney P- English hip hop (apparently related to some drum and bass MC)
Soundbombing- good compilations
Older Outkast stuff

Hip Hop is good....

Roots Manuva- brad new second hand ohh what can i say its just soo damn good
run come save me is also a fine fine album far better production but i just love the rough sound of BNSH.

if ya after some real nasty ipop check out Gamma

infact any ting from Big dadda is all good

check out Natrual Resource ( its What What's crew for all who have heard of her) its real nice and mello

another massive scratcher similar to herbaliser is DJ Vaddim ( straight from the soviet Bloc !! yea Russia!)

gamma are very nice to,black atlantian is a cool track.

Blackalicous is def worth a listen

Blackstar is my fav hip hop album of all time. (anyone know where I can get this on vinyl?)
Also Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek - Reflection Eternal is nice.I think Mos Def's album is called Black on Both Sides.
Common is very nice. Like Water For Chocolate is nice

i heard that Blackstar is out of print now.
not certain on that though.
