Not a huge fan of current hip hop, but some beats and sounds do it for me and could cross over to other genres I think.
Whats other peoples views on hip hop?
[quote]
its ok to listen to every now'n again i guess. soon as the mc's start go'n on about how badass they are n chit is when i turn it off though. like within any muzik style, theres good stuff n theres shit. i guess i just like the good stuff....heh

=)

man u sound bad ass!!!

Gotta admit NZ Hip Hop is starting to shine... DJ
Raw & KOS163 drop their EP this week & it's
good...
[quote]
the whole nz scene is starting to shine, n yeah, our hiphop is pretty good, im more meaning the gansta "ima pop a cap in y0 ass" type shit. haha...
[quote]
i think dat when them niggaz, (or whiteyboyz-woteva) start talkin all dat gansta shiiiet, its just plain old freakin funny, like, ha-ha-ha yeah...sing dat shit... har-har... (not 2 b taken seriously)

hip-hopz where da phat beatz r 2 be had, but i find there aint quite as much coverage of da good shit out there, ya knw wot i mean?

datz my $2.50 (inflation means u cant say alot for 2cents no mo)

p.s. whr can a boy get his 'andz on some dope local flava's??

New Zealand hip hop is definately up there. I'm not a big fan off that gangsta stuff but I do listen to a bit of Hip Hop. Stuff like tribe called quest, jurrasic 5, people under the stairs, dilated peoples, talib kweli, roots etc

THE BAD
1. Gangsta Rap.
Can be done well by some, but most of it
is pure shite.

2. "Bling - bling". see "P Diddy"
I dont care how much money,
how many 'Bitches', you got or
pretend to have.
I dont care if you drink Moet with diamonds
in the glass or if you wear designer clothing.
Bentlys are for wankers. John Banks has one.

Sarah Jones was right when she described them
as "Caviar eatin' ghetto mafia clowns"

3. Idiot hip hop "heads"
Not all heads, just the ones who cant see
past some fool cussing & rapping about
guns, bitches and being tough.

THE GOOD
1. what gatherer said

2. Rakim.
Considered on of the best MCs ever and I
cant remember ever hearing a swear word
come out of his mouth.

3. Timbaland, Missy & co.
Yes they are commercial and slightly
"bling - bling" but at least the rhymes and
beats are creative.

4. Redman.
Let alot of kiwi heads down but you still
gotta love his hardcore yet tongue in cheek
attitude.

5. B-boys/girls.
Positive competitiveness.
Id rather watch a battle than a gang fight
anyday.

6. NZ - hip hop
Finally, liking a NZ hiphop tune isnt something
to be ashamed of.

P Money.
2nd or 3rd best dj IN THE WORLD!

just my opinion, except the part
about P Money. THATS A FACT.
[quote]
southside story 2 is a wikkid kiwi hiphop album also

features the likes of ill semantics and deceptikonz who are up there with King kaps and Che Fu

by the way , P-Money was 3rd= in the world DMCs and Raw is playin with him @FU on the 9th 4 the next Tactics. Should be well nice

In the past couple of months I've been to quite afew hip-hop parties around auckland, mostly because some of my good friends are really into it. Gotta say I do love the change of scene. Something that sticks in my mind was the Hip-hop summit after-party at the Westend. Fully enjoyed not having to tip-toe around pilled out candy ravers lying about all over the floor talking shit and massaging each other. The Westend lounge seemed like a completely different place from when I was at DHnF a couple of weeks before.
[quote]
I like most hiphop I listen to. I agree with what Gatherer and Agumj said. Timbaland is a genius, the neptunes and dr dre also make some nice beats.
I've been listening to Adam Fs album a lot which has some of my favourites on it.

Probably my favourite all time group would be De La Soul, they may be a bit commercial, but who else do you know that got started in the 80s but are still sounding so good?

I like the New Zealand hiphop I hear as well, I have the Major Flavours cd which has some good NZ stuff on it. I like the weirdass stuff that is on the UK big dada label, and my favourite rapper is probably Roots Manuva 'cause hes mad.
[quote]
Q-Tip is a legend. Have you heard his solo cd amplified? If not, get it!
[quote]
de la soul da fuckin shiznit.

soft soothing vocals sure make a change from that ex crack head dry lung rap that you get these days
[quote]
Gotta agree on the Neptunes.. just been checking the new Kelis album, and its the full digital-electro-soul Neptunes number...

Tasty as fuck!
[quote]
Man... not one mention of Craze!?!?

This lad has been the winner of DMC & ITF over
recent years & is untouchable... Raw is a good
friend of his & got him in for a quiet gig in Welly
a couple of years back - Jan 3rd (a Tuesday
night) & the place was packed while Craze
played his mixture of D&B & Hip Hop!

Where are the educated opinions on Hip Hop &
NZ??? Oh... only 9 days 'til Footsouljahs (DJ
Raw & KOS163) drop there indie release...
[quote]
skratchmadd I'm sure you've got something to say about this! Just bringing the topic to the top for ya...
[quote]
I hate this stereotypical idea people have of hiphop being "bling bling all in yer face" "thuggish ruggish gansta" styles. Like every other musical genre things have progressed.

RuBbErDuCk - where can I get a Footsouljahs Tee with their new EP?

I love hiphop just as much as dnb.
[quote]
Sure have Glory, hey get back to work anyway.
The amount of practice, dedication and skill that goes into a Hip-Hop/Turntablists set is amazing.
I just wish they were paid or respected as high as the House deejays. They take tunes and create new ones, on the spot, kinda like remixing live.
If any of ya have seen P-Money in action ya'll know what I mean. Smile
[quote]
Even tho im pretty into my Trance and shit i still keep up with the hiphop scene.
I must say that 2Pac is one of my fav rappers, he was the shit, had some wicked rhymes. Not sure about some of the new rappers out there tho, it's not like it used to be.

Im with skratchmadd on the turntablist's issues, they are not highly recognised and they are as skilled (if not better than) as any other dj's out there.
[quote]
Big respect to P money..

What do you guys think of P-Diddy (hahaa)? I have to shamefully own up to liking his new single. Well, its better than his other stuff you must admit.
[quote]
Gangstaz..

To correct what I said earlier, Gangsta shit is mostly just SHIEEET, but DRE does it like no one else.... hes one mean mutha-fucker....
[quote]
pilled out candy ravers lying about all over the floor talking shit and massaging each other
