Not a huge fan of current hip hop, but some beats and sounds do it for me and could cross over to other genres I think.
Whats other peoples views on hip hop?

its ok to listen to every now'n again i guess. soon as the mc's start go'n on about how badass they are n chit is when i turn it off though. like within any muzik style, theres good stuff n theres shit. i guess i just like the good stuff....heh

New Zealand hip hop is definately up there. I'm not a big fan off that gangsta stuff but I do listen to a bit of Hip Hop. Stuff like tribe called quest, jurrasic 5, people under the stairs, dilated peoples, talib kweli, roots etc

Considered on of the best MCs ever and I
cant remember ever hearing a swear word
come out of his mouth.

3. Timbaland, Missy & co.
Yes they are commercial and slightly
"bling - bling" but at least the rhymes and
beats are creative.

4. Redman.
Let alot of kiwi heads down but you still
gotta love his hardcore yet tongue in cheek
attitude.

5. B-boys/girls.
Positive competitiveness.
Id rather watch a battle than a gang fight
anyday.

6. NZ - hip hop
Finally, liking a NZ hiphop tune isnt something
to be ashamed of.

In the past couple of months I've been to quite afew hip-hop parties around auckland, mostly because some of my good friends are really into it. Gotta say I do love the change of scene. Something that sticks in my mind was the Hip-hop summit after-party at the Westend. Fully enjoyed not having to tip-toe around pilled out candy ravers lying about all over the floor talking shit and massaging each other. The Westend lounge seemed like a completely different place from when I was at DHnF a couple of weeks before.

I like most hiphop I listen to. I agree with what Gatherer and Agumj said. Timbaland is a genius, the neptunes and dr dre also make some nice beats.
I've been listening to Adam Fs album a lot which has some of my favourites on it.

Probably my favourite all time group would be De La Soul, they may be a bit commercial, but who else do you know that got started in the 80s but are still sounding so good?

I like the New Zealand hiphop I hear as well, I have the Major Flavours cd which has some good NZ stuff on it. I like the weirdass stuff that is on the UK big dada label, and my favourite rapper is probably Roots Manuva 'cause hes mad.

Q-Tip is a legend. Have you heard his solo cd amplified? If not, get it!

I hate this stereotypical idea people have of hiphop being "bling bling all in yer face" "thuggish ruggish gansta" styles. Like every other musical genre things have progressed.

The amount of practice, dedication and skill that goes into a Hip-Hop/Turntablists set is amazing.
I just wish they were paid or respected as high as the House deejays. They take tunes and create new ones, on the spot, kinda like remixing live.
If any of ya have seen P-Money in action ya'll know what I mean.

Even tho im pretty into my Trance and shit i still keep up with the hiphop scene.
I must say that 2Pac is one of my fav rappers, he was the shit, had some wicked rhymes. Not sure about some of the new rappers out there tho, it's not like it used to be.

Im with skratchmadd on the turntablist's issues, they are not highly recognised and they are as skilled (if not better than) as any other dj's out there.
