Well, bloody hell slug, you were right! Not that thats a surprise or anything!

I'd never noticed the aliasing in MP3 tracks until I MP3ed 'Tuning In (Dub mix)' - Groove Armada. The bass is so low and well, bassy that frequencies start to get chopped resulting in horrible hi-pitched clicky noises. Ick.

I'll be interested to see what happens with vinyl! Mmmm... vinyl. What was that cartridge with the -20 20hz range? ha ha

oh god no,
don't awaken the slug!!!

haha jokes, nah mp3 truly is poos but its like minidisc, its good enough for most people and their setups

tt, ya fucker. What did ya want my e-mail address for? Building a spam list?

Oh, I was gonna email ya to say how much of prat you are. I would have posted it here, but then I'd have to moderate it!

Nah, just jokes. I'll get round to emailing ya. Wasn't about anything particularly amazing.

Normally, its good enough for me too borin but sometimes its just too crap. When the quality is glaringly, obviously bad, I get irritated. Also, I'm doing research into audio hardware so I thought I could lure Slug into a discussion on that... Hee hee.

Yeah, mp3 audio files are a handy filesize for
referencing. Fine for somethings, but if you get
the chance to compare an mp3 song to the
original on cd or vinyl, youll know straight away if
you will be satisfied or not with the mp3 sound.

I didnt buy my Tannoy Monitors to listen to
reduced quality music! But thats my thing.

/me admits to being a vinyl advocate

heh
(and you thought i was gonna go on......and
on....and on......) Wink

ok just one more thing.....

As an mp3 rookie, i was quite happy to find my
iTunes software (apple) can do 3 levels of mp3
quality, using differing amounts of hard disk
space (any other novices out there take note).

Ok fuck it, while its still on top of the list.

Transtemporal - most modern magnetic
cartridges (what djs use) have a response of
20hz-20khz or 20hz-18khz.

The bad ass one was an ortofon moving coil
cartridge with a response of 5hz-90khz!!

Dog ears anyone?

Ha ha! I just see slug wrestling with himself - "Shall I post that bit or not? They're probably getting bored so I won't. But then they won't know about [fill in gap]. Aw fuck it!"

I think most people are happy with MP3 because their equipment/speakers/headphones aren't really good enough to pick up the nuances of the music anyway and their ears aren't trained to notice the difference. Thing is, as soon as you upgrade your equipment, you start becoming annoyed by yucky sound quality!

MP3s are definitely useful for reference and convinience though. Its also a good medium for getting hold of stuff that is not otherwise available here or live stuff that you just can't get hold of, like DJ sets.
