Hey guys
My wife's lappy is running vista, and I plugged a usb drive into it, and now it keeps having a message pop up saying
"Interactive services dialog detection"
"a program cant display a message on your desktop"

So I clicked show program details, and its title is
"microsoft visual C++ runtime library"

She runs a business from home, so I dont want to click show me the details incase its something bad.
The said usb drive was in my sons pc, and he plays around with visual basic, but he also stuffs around with hacks and nasty things too.
But its starting to make the lappy run like crap.
What do/can I do?
Cheers in advance for any help!

Back up the whole computer and then get your son to fix it? it is probably a badly written virus that came from his comp.

kids are the worst thing you can let near a important/work computer.

clicking show details isnt going to change anything other than let you know more about the problem... ignorance isnt bliss in this case.

What about if I click "Show me the message",
Ive already clicked "Show message details".

take it to a professional and make your son work off the cost of it in mowing lawns doing dishes etc.

You could try reinstalling the runtime library.
You should be able to uninstall it from the 'show installed updates' option under Windows update, then just re-download it from WU again.

Heh, can't blame that all on your son.

Ummm I suspect that he's got a trogan on the autorun of the USB key. So when it pops up and asks you what you want to do and you select "open folder to view files" it installs some form of malware on it.

At least thats what he told me. It could be something else though. I assumed you asked him eh?

Yeah I did, but he denied everything.
"Is there an exe there Dad, no, well its not possible, it wasnt me" bla bla. Laughing

its not just exe's that are a danger.

Darkthrone?

No it wasnt Darkthrone, although that would explain the backmasking audio that plays on start up.
