Help a dumbass out

I want to take my car in to get serviced. I don't know what a service involves and how much it costs. So if anyone can be f*cked explaining thats for your help.

Depends, Can be oil change, filter change, spark plugs etc. Really depends on how long its been since your last one.

Typically they are around $200 upwards

Oil and filter... $35-40
Spark plugs... $20-25 (unless platinum then $120)
Air filter... $20-45 (unless its a Honda then double it)
Mechanics time... PRICELESS!!

Its easy enough to do it your self on most cars and you can save a packet. Working in parts also tends to ease the strain on the wallet

but yeah with service depends on what you want done, what type of parts you need, turbo/non-turbo, etc...typically you'd be looking between $150-250 standard, $300-400 for jap performance or the higher range european cars. just be happy you dont have an enzo and have to shell out thousands and thousands for a service

Thats kinda the minimum of what could be needed.. other parts might need to be changed also..
Fuel Filter - ESP NZ Fuel.
Belts - (Cam / Fan / PS).
Radiator Flush.
PS Fluid / Brake Fluid / Auto Trans fluid topped up
Leads (for the plugs) / and the points

If you go to a mechanic say exactly what you expect. If you say you wanna 'service' its a license for them to do what they want.

Say you want an oil change, oil filter, fuel filter & plugs done. Thats probably a good minimum.. I personally would ask for a radiator flush, and for them to check the PS Fluid / Brake Fluid / Auto Trans fluid... I would write that down for them and give it to them when I dropped off the car, and I'd say I want anything else that may need addressing written down for when I collect it. (if they have to write it down they will only write down stuff that NEEDS doing)

Often the air filter can be cleaned and put back in.(sometimes)
