ok, headphones for production work whilst travelling... what can you guys suggest... i've been reading various reviews of different types compared to the Senn HD280 Pro's

however, cost isnt really a problem, its the following factors that are of most importance;

comfortable for long duration use
clear to use on a plane without too much ambient noise coming in, particularly looking at long haul flights
flat response (as close to studio environment as possible)

cheers, looking forward to your feedback

oh yeah, and of course.... inner ear versus cupped vs noise cancelling...

Noisecancell adds phase cancelation to work. Wouldnt want to use them as a reference.

My vote would be for something like the Ultrasone PRO series - like the HD280s - overears..

thanks for the heads up on the Ultrasone, the Pro 900's look fantastic!

Just make sure the ones you get are closed back.

Fuck me i hate this country sometimes (dubai)....

MattT said:

there are only two words that can truly decsribe the local (dubai) rep company for what is arguably the best headphone manufacturer in the world...

FUCKING USELESS

just when you want to support a local company, they dont even have the curtosy to find out available and "local" price for something you want after ringing them 4 times a day for three days and being promised that they would ring you back every time you call...

then, after yelling at them on the phone, i get hold of one of the top guys at Ultrasone in Germany, only to find that 5 mins earlier was the first time he had recieved ANY communication from the Dubai Rep... 3 DAYS after i first asked them for info!!!, luckily, this guy was a nice guy and at least informed me that the headphones wont be available until Jan 09 because they are so popular....

ok... fuck.

5 mins later, i am talking to a company in the US and within 5mins i have confirmed pricing, shipping times, ordered and recieved my order confirmation....

why are people in this country so F*CKING USELESS at sales support and customer support

tip... if you ever have to deal with this company below... DONT BOTHER!!!!

Amaranthine Trading Company (L.L.C)
Warehouse No.37, Road 8
Al Quoz Industrial Area
Interchange 3
Sheikh Zayed Road
P.O. Box 124137 Dubai

at least they're ordered and on thier way... cant wait to let you know what they're like!!

Hey MattT,

I've got a pair of Shuke, nothing special, but wanted to use them for long haul flights from NZ. Spoke to a biker who got his ones cast into custom made plugs of his ears - says the custom plugs block out most ambient noise and lets you wear the phones for hours without discomfort. So, I got some made up - took about 10 days altogether I think, and this guy made a cast of my earbuds so they would fit into the plugs.

What can I say - the biker knew what he was on about. had an 11 hour flight to Singapore & then 12 more on to Frankfurt - had them in almost all the time - so comfortable. Only took them out for a bit of a scratch, but it was soooooo noisy in the plane with them out I just had to put them back in! I paid NZ$65 for the plugs (he did cheaper ones) and then another NZ$65 to have a cast made of my Shukes and have them fitted into the plugs. Oh yeah, and the Shukes can pop-out so they're not lost inside the plug for ever!!

Can remember the guys name or details - sorry. I'll have to add a post later on.

hey fuzzball

custom fitted ear plugs are the way to go for sure, i got some done about 1.5years ago by an english company that also provided 6/9/12db filters (i got the 9db) that effectively eq the incoming sound to be flat, i can now clearly hear people talking in clubs... from that, i will never ever go to a gig without them now, they're one of the best investments i've ever made for my ears, especially considering sound quality in clubs out here run by the rule of "louder is better" rather than quality...

hehe, have to say i also have the occasional "itch" that needs scratching after a few hours of use, it gives you a shock when you hear what the actual noise around you is like when you temporarily pull them out...

they too provided the option of a headphone version, but in this case i'm keen on the Ultrasones because of the speaker placement that lowers the effective pressure on your ears and aparently gives the feel of having monitor speakers infront of you...

that aside, i'll definately try my plugs on the next flight if i dont have my head stuck in the new headphones! cant wait! Mr. Green

Seriously amazing sound... so glad i made the investment!! Cool

its like having a studio attached to your head, clean precise sound with the ability to actually hear stereo widening properly!

thanks for the heads up Proof!

What are the ultrasone Dj1 pro headfones like?
[quote]
The PRO's are too big for DJing with.

The DJ1's however, are awesome.
[quote]
How much are the Dj1's? Why are the Pros to big.
I have been using senns for years, but am wanting a change.
dj1 vs HD25's?

Any idea on the cost of dj1's?

The Pro's are big and heavy, fully encase your ears inside the headphones.. the quality is amazing but in a club i think you'd run the risk of over-heating...

for comparison sake, its like having a pair of Senheisser 215's on your head... the HD25's are better!! lighter...cooler
