In regards to General everyday listening that is.

What are you packing? do you prefer headphones or earphones/buds?
And while we're here, what are you plugging them into?
Noise cancellation - to those that have it, would you recommend it?
Further thoughts?
[quote]
ipod generic for my morning walk for pod/phone - don't like but can't be arsed changing them
technics for playing records on turntables (thats old people talk)

have some noise cancelling flash headphones that I loathe - outside ambient noise is part and parcel of listening whilst walking imo

Sennheiser HD-25-1 II or death, even with the niggling issues they have. Comfy, great sound, light but solid. Eye-wateringly expensive though, at over $400.

Earbuds suck.

Edit: zomg limited edition Addidas ones!

I'd like to own them addidas headphones.. quite sexy

however Sennheisers are for stuck up fools

I have the Sennheiser HD-25 1 II, love them, so light and comfortable and quality sound, wear them everywhere.

They are only $320 roughly from Juno.co.uk including delivery (a few months ago now), will be even cheaper now with the exchange rate as it currently is. On NZ based sites they are $600+

Adidas version is sweet but not worth paying the extra $100 or so for them!

I've been rocking these for a while (below), I've gone through maybe 10 different kinds in the $200-300 kind of range, and these are my favourites so far.

Sennheiser HD 238

i just use the apple earphones.

I have some really nice headphones, that i used to use for dj'ing, but i lost the chord for it.. Sad
[quote]
I prefer my Sennheisers for listening etc but I feel they are a bit too much for walking around sometimes.. plus more to carry etc and the side noise for others can be pretty loud, oh and the centre piece can mess up my hair.. so I use earbuds out and about.
[quote]
At my computer I have Audio Technica ath-ad900s or ath-a500s, plugged into super awesome Asus Xonar Essence STX soundcard
Portable headphones I use Audio Technica ath-fc700 with Cowon S9 mp3 player. Sometimes use some Sony earbuds with that too.
Djing I have some Sennheiser HD280s. Got them when I started and figured I would run them till they broke which hasn't happened yet, though that may not be far off.

Hah, sif paying $600.

Interestingly, the local online supplier I found with the Addidas ones, they are cheaper than the normal ones, $439 v $489

But yeah, can be found much cheaper.

I've got sony mdr 7506's for at home listening and djing.

They sound great to my (somewhat shattered) ears, and I've basically lived in mine for 3 years with no issues apart from the foam/leather pads now needing a replacement. I like the Sennheiser HD 25s too.

Portable wise right now I listen to stuff on my phone and ipod using just standard earplugs, it's only short periods of listening so haven't been too worried. I do hate the ipod earplugs though, I'm intending on getting a better pair of noise cancelling/in ear plugs for travel soon. Definitely worthwhile getting good ones if you're going to be spending long periods listening. Anyone got any recommendations for noise cancelling/in ear plugs?
[quote]
I have phillips noise cancelling ear plugs and they're pretty good. I dunno what version or anything.

I also have some funky over the ear ones for running, as the noise cancelling ones don't stay in my ears with all that jiggling (and I lost the smaller ear buds so they don't fit perfectly).
[quote]
I have these. They're great.

[quote]
I got the Adidas Sennys from a sale here for $250 AUD...super sweet! Great for Djing

For MP3 player listening just some Phillips Ear Buds, does the trick...not as nice as the Senny CX300's, which in turn aren't as nice as Klipsch S4i...they're awesome!

I have some $700 Shure earphones round here somewhere also which are really epic, but cables are annoying.

My boyfriend just bought a pair of these. He says they are awesome, lightweight, great sound and comfy as fuck.

As for me, Technics all the way! Also Sennheiser ear buds for rocking round town with the ipod on.

Skullcandy GIs - I really wanted the brown Aviators shown in the ads on this site but they weren't out here yet and I had a pressing for headphones. My GIs are good though.
[quote]
I was considering those brown Aviator Skullcandy ones. But then again, the black ones would probably go better with my black glass desk.

I have Technics 1200s

See, now this is a really silly statement to make. Everyones hearing is different. A good portion of you love HD25's, I can't stand them and adore Technics. I'm not saying Senny's suck, I'm just saying I don't like them.

I found the sound in the above headies WAY nicer than the Sennheisers. They have a deeper more robust sound and the headphones themselves are far more comfortable, I find HD25's too high pitched for my tastes. Again, just my opinion.

I would hope no one is actually using this thread to choose headies.. The only way to choose something is to test drive them for yourself. I made the fatal mistake a few years back of listening to everyone going on about how great HD25's are, I invested and I hate them. they hurt my ears in clubs and I can't hear properly.

Anyone wanna buy a pair..? Razz

Bet you $50 that you (and the majority of people) wouldn't be able to tell the difference between any of the 3 headphones you mentioned in a controlled, blind test... Make it $100 actually

Edit. Double post. Where's the delete button on posts?
[quote]
I'd take you up on that Grinder, sound aside you could tell by feel on your ears alone!

Even without head-feel I bet I could tell the difference between Sennheisers and Technics in a blind test as long as we were using a song I was familiar with (as in, had mixed often) and a source I was familiar with (vinyl through a Pioneer mixer or something - not some random consumer stereo).

I've neer used the AIAIAI so no idea about those.
[quote]
Yeah I'm yet to find a pair of closed back Sennheisers that are comfortable on my ears, I'm not saying all are uncomfortable but my ears are obviously the wrong shape for them. When my entry level Seinnys fucked out I tried the whole range at several stores and knew right away that my sticky out ears would not appreciate any of the Seinheisers I tried (my entry level ones were almost painful to wear at times). The Skullcandy GIs were very comfortable and sounded good enough in the few minutes I listened through them as well as reasonably priced, and the sound is less bass heavy than most Seinnys but I might prefer it (not sure whether it's just my subconscious justifyng the purchase).
[quote]
Also they've been used by half the cats that play Red without complaint, but then again those without headphones can't really complain about others'.

Ordered some HD 25-1 II's from a local store here for $299 the other day Smile Should be arriving tomorrow...

Not sure how I missed this.. Yep, I agree. Sennheiser and Technics have a vastly different sound, and the way they sit on your head is also totally different. What hurts my ears most with Sennheiser is the way they sit on my ears. They actually ache by the end of a big night in a club. I find I have to have the headphones level up a lot higher too and because they are too high pitched the inside of my ears hurts too.

I played for 5 hours in Red Bar on Friday night with Technics, didn't have to have to headphone volume up very loud and my ears were fine. I couldn't have done that with Sennheisers.

Oh and Yak, sorry I didn't get back to you! Seems your sorted now anyway, and I want to keep my Sennheisers for studio headies. They do rule at making beats. Smile
