Sorry if this has already been done, but do I need to spend a bazillion dollars on an hdmi cable, when trademe have them for twenty bucks brand new?

No. If it's just a couple of metres, then just get a "normal" priced one.

You can buy them for around $20 from reasonable computer stores.

Signal loss in HDMI would only be at real extreme lengths.

The very cheapest I'd avoid just because if they are built really cheaply they'll be more likely to physically fail.

The markup on these cables are fucken sick.

My gf is working parttime at JBHifi and I picked up a $90 cable last week. Got it on staff price for $50

Or go to Jaycar and get it for $30.

Its digital so pretty much full signal or no signal - it wont degrade as such.

Fancy HDMI cables are the biggest con going at the moment in that arena.

Africa: If you think 50 > 90 is bad, try and imagine the actual production cost on that same cable. If you guess over $5, you're most likely wrong. High margin shit like over priced cables is where stores like that clean up.

Ohh I know that kris I was just amazed. Also got me a couple of RCA cable at about 1/3 the price.

I picked these HDMI cables because they looked pretty and where they are you will be able to see so didnt want some grubby shit sticking out.

Yeah I did that, I think I got 5m for under $20. Bit bulky but it delivers my video from the 'puter to the TV nicely.

I went into a Dick Smiths here in Melbourne and they had a setup with two LCD's comparing 'ordinary' cables to 'monster' cables.

It looked a hell of a lot better with monster cable I must say....

But what they failed to inform the customer of was that the 'oridinary' cable was RCA and the 'monster' cable HDMI.



Honesty is just a word in retail.

or go up to the lcd panels and reset the colour settings to default.... suddenly the expensive panels dont look all that much better.

The jbhifi guy got fairly septic when I did that.

I saw a Samsung LED television the other day, looked pretty awesome but seemed like it almost had too much contrast, kinda like an over exposed photo.

Samsung Series 6/7/8 LCD's are mint- and a couple of grand cheaper than LED's too
