November is set to be renamed Nunvember as Flying Nun Records celebrate their 30th Anniversary with a month of shows, releases and re-releases.

Legendary signings The Clean, HDU, The Bats and Ghostclub will tour throughout the month along with some new signings to the iconic Kiwi label.

Launching the birthday month will be a showcase of the New Faces of Flying Nun Records in Auckland on November 4 and Wellington November 5 featuring Grayson Gilmour, Popstrangers, T54 and Surf Friends.

F in Math and Alphabethead will also tour the country and there are a series of Flying Nun Tribute Nights scheduled for across New Zealand and Australia.

The label will also release Tally Ho - a double disc, 30 year Best Of compilation along with new music and re-releases from a number of the label's bands.

Flying Nun was formed in Christchurch in 1981 by Roger Shepherd and has represented some of the most prominent alternative Kiwi rock bands.

In 1990 Festival Records bought a 50 per cent stake in the label, and then in 2000 merged with Mushroom Records bringing Flying Nun into the Festival Mushroom Records family of companies.

Flying Nun was bought by Warner Music Group in 2006 before Shepherd bought back the label from Warner in 2009 alongside business partners Neil Finn and his wife Sharon.

can't imagine them not doing a 'digital' version of the CD... would hope it comes with a decent pdf booklet, as the liner notes should be worth having, if previous anniversary compilations are anything to go by

for me its the 3Ds vinyl of Hellzapoppin (never been on wax before) the Pin Group Retrospective on wax and the Sth Island comp on wax

Oh your right, I just saw the 30th birthday splash and presumed that's what it was all about.............as you were.

all them vids and docos are well good however - more so than something done to capture the 30th

for a long but interesting read about NZ music (well basically the nun and xpressway) from a US gent, this 95 piece is pretty cool
