Nick Miller and I are making an effort to see some of Sydney's favorite beaches. Been to a few already, just looking to write some of them up and give people an idea. Will add to these as we check new ones.

Manly

One of sydneys best known beaches. Great because u can get shelter in most winds, either at queenscliff at the north or at shelly beach at the south.

Beach/water/sand: 7/10 - usually reasonably clean, nice sand, not too much kelp or rubbish. Not recommended within 24 hours after rain though.
Waves: 7/10 - Handles bigger swells pretty well, usually has enough for a fun bodysurf.
Crowding: 3/10 - Can get busy as anything on the weekends. quieter during the week. Usually comfortable at queenscliff and shelly beach.
Amenities: 8/10 loads of shops but also the opportunity to get away from it a bit (again, north or south) Loads of food, and a bustling nightlife. The steyne and the wharf bar are both great for a cold one in your boardies and thongs (jandles.) after an afternoon on the beach.
Eye Candy: 7/10. depends on what day and where you go.
Transport: Accessible by bus and by ferry. Once you're there, everything is walking distance away.

Probably my favorite, just for its convenience for everything (and friends living out that way.) always a sure bet.

On the list of ones I want to check = Moroubra, coogee, bronte, curl curl and dee why.

Bronte is a family beach and has too much seaweed. No one goes toplees there either.

Coogee: translated in aboriginal means "place of stinking waters"

Yeah i read the same thing in the Daily Telegraph yesterday!

For some reason i just can't warm to Coogee!

Maroubra is nice, feels more like a real beach! Have heard alot about
the "BRA BOYS" but have yet to sample their hospitality!

Bra boys?
[quote]
Have you never heard of them?

"MarouBRA Boys" otherwise known as the BRA Boys!

Italian/lebo/greek gang that live in the eastern suburbs,
cause alot of trouble, quite intimidating! They normally
have BRA tattooed somewhere!

Surprised you haven't heard of them living in Sydney, they
usually hit the newspaper every month or so involved in an
attack or assault.

haha! Doesn't sound very tough... being a BRA boy Laughing
