yo you guys i am asking for a little feed back to help me with a reseach paper i am working on...

bacically i want you thoughts on graf and how it fits into hip hop.. what i mean is do you think there is still a connection between all the elements??

i am mostly interested in people from welly because thats where my research is based but any one is welcome to give me their 2 cents..

and a big thank you if you do Smile

Yo Izabela, I'm from ak and have been 2 welly only once in Dec 1999. One thing I noticed was that there wasn't actually that much graf around and the stuff that I did see was mostly from Ak - i.e. Phat1 and the TMD crew.

This may not have much relevance, i.e. the relationship between hip hip & graf these days but just one thing I noticed.

i've noticed that graf is developing it's own identity and culture. all the other elements are kinda stayin in the hip-hop fam' but graf is growing more. b-boy's are just dudes who listen to hip-hop and watch hip-hop videos trying out the shit, emcees are listeners of hip-hop, and hiphop dj's are just dudes who wanna spin their tunes. graf is being taken up by more and more non hiphop heads. but there is still the connection, graf heads still listen to some hip-hop and a lot of them are skaters too.

this is only my opinion/observation

I'm mad keen on hiphop (when i say hiphop i
mean the music) but don't really give a shit
about the whole 'elements' biz. Graff bores me
and i don't particularly like breakdancing. It's all
about the music for me, and i think it's the same
for a lot of people i know too. Some of the
'elements' bare no relevance to me, yet i still
consider myself a hiphophead.

the "elements" thing is in the past.
its something only those known as "backpackers" still dig on.
sure they still have a major hiphop influence, but many diferent people now indulge in it.
graf is now practiced in large part by middle class art school students, thousands of miles away from the streets of NYC where it began.
many breakers use much more uptempo stuff than hiphop these days (even house) to do there thing to.
i get a lecture once from the dj from the black attack crew about how they never used hiphop for breakdancing anyway (well it all started with electro anyway)...
i really like graf miself, i used to it in my mispent youth in sth auckland.

the graf on the lines in ak is nothing compared to what it is in melbourne.
there are wall to wall wicked bombs streching over hundreds of km's on every single train route, and the quality of the work here is outstanding, the writers are alot better than australian mc's.
