I've borrowed a Garmin nuvi and found it quite handy - anyone got recommendations on cheapish GPS units? Dont need street name pronunciation or stuff like that. Just to know where i am (map view) and 'turn left/ turn right' etc.

Looking at navmans and tom toms like this but dont want to buy a lemon.

Navman S100 GPS
Navman S35 GPS
TomTom One Car Navigation, GPS
Uniden TRAX 430 Car Navigation Unit, GPS

Got my brother the S35 NM for Xmas and its pretty good if you can handle smaller screen. Not that anything is much bigger.

i find the TomTom better and easier to use than the Navman's.

Do you have a fancy phone? I believe Garmin and TomTom have straight software for S60, Windows Mobile etc so that may be a cheap option

i might have a look at using a phone but i think it might be a bit fiddly.

About $160 for a Aus/NZ licence for a year.

Maps and all updates are free, you only pay for Voice guided Navigation. Also, the maps are saved on a memory card so no data involved in downloading the maps. (unlike Google Maps)
