Google plus social networking

It makes lots of sense, and there are plenty of reasons

Google as a company has improved our lives with various technologies. I'd like to know what tangible costs there have been to that. I can't think of any that aren't largely moot. The world hasn't gotten worse as far as I can tell, at least not in any ways that are directly attributable to google.
I get the whole weary or corporations thing but not everyone is Microsoft or Big Oil.

I actually had that for a while but I think at some stage I decided that I just wanted to be able to approve tag's, so I set it to that, so people can see them once I approve them, instead of me being the only one who can see them.

Not my topic area so I have no empirical commentary to offer
Suffice to say though that corporations serve the god of capital not human interest.
If they gain the potential to gather detailed information about us there is a huge amount of naieve trust involved in allowing them to have this power should they decide to exploit it in ways we cannot yet imagine.

Okay well lets put it this way: we are going down this road regardless and if I have a choice over who will have my data, I'd rather it was google over facebook.

You had it like what for a while? and do you know how to keep a tag on certain photos but not let people on your friends list see that photo?

I think from memory you set the privacy setting for taged photos (which is effectively the visibility setting) to "just me".

I think the options are 'everyone' / 'friends of friends' / 'friends' / 'just me' and also custom user created lists.

I think its ummm only photos you're tagged in, but all of them. What I'm not sure of, is which one takes precedence if two rules apply eg

Photos I upload = Everyone
Photos I'm tagged in = Just me.

I do not know what happens if you upload a photo and then tag yourself. I suspect the principal of widest viewability applies, and that everyone will see it.

I just made up the name for that principal, I don't know if I like it, I think I need a better name for my principal. Maybe the principal of least security.

I didn't mind the first name.

Have not used it much to date but I love the concept of it all.

"What's hot on Google+" is pretty bloody stupid. You can't get rid of it and it takes up most of the fold line on your page. May as well stick a goddamn ad there.
