Good Mechanics/Bad Mechanics - post your experiences

I need to get some work done (see steering thread) and am curious about who you guys use, and whether you're happy with them or not.

St Lukes Tyre & Mechanical = pretty good. A bit expensive, but helpful on the whole. All I really did with them was a bit of tyre work, though.

Clark & Clark Automotive, Carlton Gore Rd, Newmarket = Quite happy with them. They tried to fix my lifter noise and failed last time I took it there, which cost me a bit extra, but the car was running a bit better afterwards. Good place to go for a service, not sure on proper mechanical work.

TechNCar, Albany = Harvey is the nicest guy I've ever dealt with regarding anything mechanical. I used to take my girlfriend's old 300zx to him all the time, and his work and attitude was always top notch. He's a bit of a 300zx specialist but will work on any cars, and I can't recommend him enough. Possibly more of a tuner than a mechanic, though.

Newmarket Nissan = Love em. Will probably go back, they're worth the extra cost.

Nation Wide auto service centre Mt Wellington - do a good job with servicing, cunts about warranting though so I dont go there anymore.

The only other mechanics I have dealt with are tuning shops so here goes:

Beyond Performance Avondale - Highly recommend, Mark and Mark know their shit! They are expensive and the work might not be 100% pretty but they get awesome results! They have done most of the engine work on my car, these guys specialise in Honda especially turbo conversions but are good with everything, very good with Skylines

ST Hi-Tec New Market - Soichi the owner is Japanese, this means he can pretty much source you anything you want out of Japan for a reasonable price which is great. His shops workmanship comes highly recommended from people I know that have used him. He does a lot of Skylines, Silvias and other Japanese Cars

Gizzmo Electronics Avondale - DODGEY F#$KERS in my opinion, they sold me and installed my Microtech computer, not only did they sell me the wrong comp but they then installed it the wrong way! I'll never take my car back there and I know a few people that have had big problems with them

Kiwi RE - Pakuranga, Rotary specialists but will work on other cars, these guys re-installed my microtech properly as they specialise in those computer systems, Warren who works there is a really good dude but the other guys are wankers. I asked them to fix a breakage in my suspension which they did but they did a half assed as hell job which myself and a friend had to fix, When I got my car back bolts were missing from the engine bay aswell! I dont recomend them even if you own a rotary go to R.E.S (Rotary Engine Specialists)

M's Racing - East Tamaki, I've never got these guys to do any work on my car but if your stuck for parts Peter the owner is awesome! This guy has saved me twice now! He hooked me up with my turbo and sorted me out with a mint second hand chromoly flywheel for a very good price, highly recomended for parts, especially if ur in a real bind, Peter is your man!
