So does anyone know of any quality cafes round London? I always make a trek to Flat White when I'm in Soho or close, but need more suggestions, most of them are rubbish.

Hi Woodger Smile
You are SO right. I have found a couple of places where the food is ok, but the atmosphere is lacking. Or too expensive etc... No where seems to have sussed a decent Sunday brunch or even be open for one!! What area are you in though? I like cafe 1001 which is just off bricklane in Shoreditch. Cool place to be from lunch until late- music, cheap food, atmosphere etc...
Let me know if you find somewhere cool- Im checking out clapham at the moment. i will post my reviews, sadly the only one I have is: Belle Vue SUCKS arse.

I'm in Nott Hill, Westbourne Park, Ladbroke Grove kinda zone.

For ok coffee round here I go to Progresso on Portobello Rd

Monmouth Coffee shop in Borough Market is pretty good for coffee but not much else.

Sux aye, some weekends I'd die for a good brekkie and coffee in a decent cafe.

Queens' Park has Jack's which is really ratable, though a bit of a trek outside the Kilburn area.

Most greasy spoons in London are cheap and nasty though, it's so ahrd to find something decent!

Although technically a bar, Bar Vinyl in Camden is a wicked little place to go for a coffee and something to eat - and a beer of 5 of course Wink

The Wet Fish Cafe in West Hampstead does excellent coffee and good breakfasts as well, always busy. THE closet thing to a kiwi cafe breakfast that I have found in London so far, eggs florentine type stuff, eggs montreal etc and the good breakfast shi, lunch and I think dinner as well actually.

Monmouth in Borough market does gooooood coffee, 60p double espressos!A lot of the staff are actually kiwis and aussies in there As does the one in Covent Garden in Monmouth Street, but yeah, they really only do coffee with a bit of snacky food.

There was a kiwi cafe in the top of Snow & Rock in Covent Garden, Mercer Street to be exact, not sure if it still there, but the guys running used to work for Havana in Wellington from what I remember, they did good food and roasted their own coffee.

Apparently for good coffee, Flat WHite is good.

Flat White is located at 17 Berwick Street, Soho (amidst the Berwick Street fruit market).

Yeah it does

Couple of decent ones on Portobello Rd, Mau Mau (near the north end) and Progresso (although consistency is a factor)

There's another which is also run by kiwi's and aussies.. on Portobello Rd. But i've never known the name of it (so you may have already mentioned it here). Its almost opposite the Electric Cinema (2nd from the corner), and i think it is near Progresso.
But this 'unknown' coffee shop makes pretty damn good coffee (big call) but unfortunately they don't do food (apart from chocolates) and there is very limited and basic seating.. but then on market days you've got all of the food stalls right on the doorstep Mr. Green

some flat white research for you.. spacific.net

Yeah, Flat White is run by kiwis and is pretty good... they do the 2nd best coffee in London IMO.

The best coffee I've had in London however is put on by Italians (who else...) right in the heart of central London on Charing Cross road:

Yeah it's an organic place right? It does do pretty good coffee although again the consistency is an issue. Is this the place that sells a lot of teas?

OMG found: THE tastiest cafe in my London experience so far!!! Smile

Breads etcetera on Clapham high street.
They have among other things, a massive range of organic sourdough, They have a DIY toast option for £2.50 you can choose as many bits of different breads and toast them at your table, and a range of spreads. They have Monmouth coffee, hot chocolates made from choc buttons, tasty organic bacon, handmade sausages YUM YUM YUM plus fairly decent customer service!! So happy to have this as my local Smile

Ha I see that bread place pratically every day but it always looked a bit odd to me! Might have to check it out. Also on the High Street is Ecsa which I go to almost every weekend for lunch. So much to choose from and I haven't had anything there that I didn't love. Good coffee too - http://www.urbanpath.com/london/delicatessens/esca.htm

Another cool store to actually buy coffee from is the Algerian coffee store on old compton street in soho. It's been a coffee store for over 100 years. Really cool store.
